Dangerous Category 5 Hurricane Irma had a devastating impact on islands in the Caribbean.
Hurricane and Storm surge watches were issued Thursday morning for South Florida. The Florida Keys began evacuating visitors and residents, followed by flood zones in Miami and Miami Beach. Sarasota FL declared a local state of emergency Thursday morning.
Polk County FL Sheriff Grady Judd said Wednesday that law enforcement authorities would check the identities of people who turn up at shelters--and take to jail anyone found to have an active arrest warrant. “If you go to a shelter for Irma and you have a warrant, we’ll gladly escort you to the safe and secure shelter called the Polk County Jail... “If you have a warrant, turn yourself in to the jail — it’s a secure shelter.” Judd also posted that sex offenders and sex predators would not be admitted to the shelters. "We cannot and we will not have innocent children in a shelter with sexual offenders & predators. Period." Judd's statements unleashed a liberal firestorm via Twitter.

Sort of funny, I feel very exposed out in the Great Plains, those cold fronts come down, the wind just howls all winter long, and the crazy thunderstorms and frequent tornadoes. But, my favorite place on earth is the Outer Banks, barrier islands, way on out there, most out of sight from the mainland. It's not too awfully different, the wind is always there but it's a sea breeze, it's warm nine months out of the year. There are good sized dunes, largest on the east coast, and live oaks set back from the beach where storm overwash tends to keep them killed back.
The sky, though, it's huge. The sunrise over the Atlantic, the sunset over the sounds, the colors, the stars at night, you can still see the Milky Way. Nothing like stargazing by a beach bonfire. You're cheating yourself. The ocean can get pretty wild, yes, particularly on Hatteras where it's just normally that way every day. Beautiful though, so primal.

It was closed by Hurricane back in the 1960’s and people wanted to it back open for decades but people built Mansions on it .

Did you note the buoy off to the left of the Marathon point bouncing all over? That is one of the more fascinating cams since I began watching those I’ve found....it makes a huge difference too when you adjust the quality and run it at least movie screen.

I know it’s intensifying but maybe the fact part of it is over land in Cuba and part of the outer band hitting land in South FLA is slowing it from really kicking in right now?

See those two T top center console boats in the high Marathon webcam? Those boats are so dead -lol. Definitely insured. It’s coming up on low tide. Just add 8 hr.s and 12 feet to the picture and that’s what’ll it be at midnight.
