President Donald Trump briskly overruled congressional Republicans and his own treasury secretary Wednesday to cut a deal with Democrats to keep the government operating and raise America's debt limit. The immediate goal was ensuring money for hurricane relief, but in the process the president brazenly rolled his own party's leaders.
...brushing aside the urgings of GOP leaders and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin for a much longer extension to the debt limit. Republicans want that longer allowance to avoid having to take another vote on the politically toxic issue before the 2018 congressional elections.
The session painted a vivid portrait of discord at the highest ranks of the Republican Party. After an angry August that Trump spent lobbing attacks at fellow Republicans, specifically targeting Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell...
At first, in Wednesday's Oval Office meeting, the Republicans lobbied for an 18-month debt ceiling extension, then 12 months and then six, but Trump waved them off. As Mnuchin continued to press an economic argument in favor of a longer-term deal, Trump tired of it and cut him off mid-sentence. ...
Aboard Air Force One, Trump told reporters, "We had a very good meeting with Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer." He didn't mention Republicans McConnell and House Speaker Paul Ryan, who also had been present...
"I think the deal will be very good," Trump added.
Barely an hour earlier, Ryan had slammed the Democrats' demand for a three-month extension as "ridiculous and disgraceful." He issued no public statement on the final deal...
The deal struck Wednesday at the White House promises to speed the $7.9 billion Hurricane Harvey aid bill, which passed the House overwhelmingly Wednesday...The debt ceiling and government funding extensions will be attached.

Republicans haven’t been looking out for us for YEARS either!!! Damned if we do and damned if we don’t these BASTARDS need to be primaried!!!
Eric Cantor’s recent comment about Obamacare showed that..
“Anyone who thinks Ryan and McConnell have any interest at all in MAGA after the last 8 months has not been paying attention. Until the Congressional GOP breaks with them nothing will change.”
I agree fully.
But that doesn’t mean therefore Pelosi and Schumer are good or should be in power.
We need new Speaker and Majority Leader.
Eric Cantor says he ‘never believed’ GOP rallying call to repeal Obamacare while Obama was in office
“Yes, Trump needs to ask for new leadership. He is leader of the party and needs to step up.”
That’s right.
I thought Trump would do that from day one.
But Trump has been nothing but fair in giving the GOPe chances.
HAHAHA! You’re still beating the same dead horse.
I do not believe a amnesty bill will come up for a vote in the United States Senate.
Therefore, I do not believe there will be a amnesty bill for President Trump to sign.
I’ve now repeated this in 3 different posts. If you can’t comprehend this one either, it’s on you. Not me :)
Oh and I think it is RIDICULOUS to work with Dems just to say FU to republicans...because DEMS arent looking out for us AT ALL
Yet you’re just fine with a ridiculous 18 month CR GOPe FU directed at POTUS. That would have severely increased their power and been a disaster for conservatives. You’re the biggest troll on FR. LMAO.
“We need new Speaker and Majority Leader.”
Amen to that!
ROFLMAO..way to try to hedge it.
You tried to claim on another thread that Trump isn’t for amnesty for DACA illegals.
SO ONCE AGAIN, FOR THE RECORD...will Trump sign an amnesty bill if presented (HE WILL) or are you still claiming he won’t sign it because he isn’t for amnesty for illegals.
“Look, I perfectly understand sticking it to Ryan, but why in (Nicolas Cages character in The Rock) ZEUS BUTTHOLE would you want to work with Schumer and Pelosi?”
Because Democrat leaders in Congress deliver the votes of their rank and file...they are not afraid to use extreme coercion to assure loyalty to themselves. Republicans have two giant functional problems that they have never shown any sign of being able to handle: 1. They are worse than a herd of cats and they never go in a single mass in one direction, in part because each and every one has their own program or nuance and each and every one is convinced that they’re the only person who really understands the issue, and 2. Because they are worse than a herd of cats, they elect either the most incapable or most corrupt to be their leadership...so that each and every one has maximum opportunity to be a maverick and go their own way. They are a completely dysfunctional ruling party. And they likely will continue to be for very long time.
And Trump ran on really one thing...getting stuff done. He’s going to do deals with people who actually can deliver a solid block of votes and know he can always peel off enough Republicans to get him over the line...because Republicans have made themselves into disparate smaller groups looking to be peeled off in return for some “consideration.” The are a majority that acts exactly like a minority. That’s where their comfort level is...so Schumer and Pelosi, essentially by default get to be what they want to be: the de facto leaders of Congress.
Blame the Republicans, they aren’t called the stupid party for nothing.
We need new Speaker and Majority Leader.
Agreed. Might want to spread that word to the Freedom Caucus, Ted Cruz, etc. They’ve been fully supportive of the leadership they elected. Nothing will change until that does.
Agreed. He is forcing the GOP to fight him which is, now that I really think hard, a smart move. The GOP is the opposition party even if they are in the majority. Now they can oppose Trump. If two of your friends get into a fight at least one of your friends is sure to win. Maybe this will turn out better than I was thinking it would.
Good afternoon.
“Simple solution, GOP, pass a damn budget.”
Yep.
Makes one wonder who is really in charge? Big donors, lobbyists, etc..?
5.56mm
You’re starting to crack yourself up too. Awesome.
For the record: I do not believe a amnesty bill ever comes up for a vote in the Senate. Period. That’s my answer to your question. Same answer for 4 straight posts.
So keep in mind, each time you ask this question: “will Trump sign an amnesty bill if presented (HE WILL) or are you still claiming he wont sign it because he isnt for amnesty for illegals”, my answer remains the same.
So before you ask me the same question for a 5th time, don’t. You already know my answer :)
Republicans have two giant functional problems that they have never shown any sign of being able to handle
The GOP can’t get anything done because the two main wings of the party have diametrically opposed agendas. The progressive corportist wing wants open borders, big government. Patriots want a wall, less government, etc.
Dems, OTOH, are all progressives of varying stripes.
It’s hard for me to see a future for the GOP if Trump can’t sort them out. The corportists would rather be in the minority than govern in a patriotic manner.
Remember when this came up last time people here said he would use the negotiations to get things from the Dems..like funding for the wall.
He got nothing. He caved..and what happens next time...THIS:

“That means when the dual deadline for the budget and debt arrives in mid-December, Democrats will have enormous leverage. They will be in a position to trade support for the budget and the debt ceiling for any number of Democratic priorities, from health care to protection of Dreamers who are suddenly facing deportation.”
2 cents. Good move by Trump at this time due to the national emergencies of Harvey and Irma.
The people need percieve their needs being met. It’s not the time for political bickering. Trump’s goal is to get through these disasters as smoothly as possible.
Ryan, Mconnell, et al getting their feelings hurt is irrelevant.
As I understand, this is just a short term budget? They’ll come back to it in 3 months? Time enough to deal with the more immediate and necessary issues of dealing with the storms.
ROFLMAO
Bookmarking it anyway...because you already said on another thread he wasn’t for amnesty.

Bookmark away. Maybe your psychiatrist will read it & find it helpful in your treatment. :)
