Trump to Congress: Legalize DACA! (or I Will Revisit)
Breitbart.com ^ | 5 Sep 2017 | Adam Shaw

President Trump called on Congress to “legalize” DACA late Tuesday, just hours after his administration announced the repeal of the amnesty for children brought to the country illegally — promising that he will “revisit this issue” if Congress does not turn DACA into legislation.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced the repeal of the Obama era executive order — known as the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program — both on constitutional grounds and also on principle.

“The effect of this unilateral executive amnesty, among other things, contributed to a surge of unaccompanied minors on the southern border that yielded terrible humanitarian consequences,” Sessions said. “It also denied jobs to hundreds of thousands of Americans by allowing those same jobs to go to illegal aliens.”

The move saw significant opposition from Democrats and voices in the media, while even some Republicans who formerly opposed DACA called for Congress to act to resolve the issue with legislation.

The rollback includes a six-month delay so as to allow Congress to act if it so chose. The White House had expressed hope that the issue could be included as part of a broader immigration legislation package, with Trump tweeting that he hoped to work with Democrats and Republicans for a reform “that puts hardworking citizens of our country 1st.”

But by late Tuesday, Trump appeared to have turned into a paper tiger on the key campaign promise to get rid of DACA, saying he would “revisit this issue” if Congress did not “legalize DACA.”

Given the cover he just tried to give himself with that tweet, IMO, he will absolutely sign it.

Clearly, nothing Trump says right now will be good enough for you. You just want to tantrum on this issue.

Try directing your fire where it belongs: Amnesty Ryan. The ball is in his court now.

POTUS has fulfilled his campaign pledge and ended DACA. If that isn’t good enough for you, nothing will be.

Again..if anyone thinks their congressional leaders are in it for the people then they have their head in the sand. Congress is about the last place to go to to get anything done for the people. It’s a self serving entity lining their pockets with whatever benefits entirely themselves.......wearing a mask of service.

It’s useless to the people....

This is a serious question to you. Do you really believe he will veto an amnesty bill for the Dreamers that are here if Congress manages to pass one.

Do you even want it vetoed?

No, he didn’t cave at all. He’s exposing the swamp. He’s put this into the hands of Congress where is SHOULD be.

I’m proud of him, he’s taking all the heat on this yet is really forcing both sides of the aisle to come to an agreement or he’ll “do something” - which they’ll all be fearful of. They have a ticking clock too, he’s forcing them to act. We’ll see who falls into what camp. All prior to mid-terms - love it!

Reading all the %&^%$#@! pearl-clutching garbage, posted on this thread, is maddening. So many here are so easily willing to think or believe the worst about President Trump.

The responses cause me to wonder whether they actually support President Trump, or they are just “fair weather friends.”

Agreed. You just have to chuckle at these simpletons sitting in their armchairs. It's like they want Trump to fail just so they can claim moral superiority. They're no better than Never Trumpers in my book and they show exactly why conservatives have had no real power since Reagan. Dems never stop fighting after losing 1,000 seats and the White House. Yet the surrender caucus of the conservative movement can't wait to run up the white flag. LOL.

There is no chance Trump signs an "amnesty bill" before an obamacare/tax cut/etc. bill. Not. Going. To. Happen.

There is only way out of his end DACA/big heart quandary.

That’s legalize everyone covered under DACA and then scrap the program.

That seems to be what he wants, but it would be nice if he, you know, led a bit here.

Honestly, he runs this administration like a reality show. What does the Bachelor want? Who has a connection? What are the current alliances?

I can’t imagine working under this setup.

“It would be quite rich for Republicans to have control of Congress and the White House, and the only legislative achievement they can show for it is saving Obama’s amnesty.

No Obamacare repeal, no tax cuts, no infrastructure plan, and no wall. Just a bill that will likely give citizenship to nearly a million future Democratic voters and alienate Republican voters.

Opinions obviously vary on FR and although I am opposed to amnesty, I could swallow a compromise whereby some minority of DACA people (not everyone and subject to meaningful verification not rubber-stamping) were allowed to stay if in return we obtained things we want like, yes, full funding for The Wall and other enforcement measures such as 100% in-and-out visa checks (tracking when visa holders actually leave), real E-Verify mandatory enforcement, banning in-state tuition for illegals (which could be done by withholding federal education funds from states that allow that), banning illegals from benefiting from “affirmative action” in education and things like that. I realize that to many here, any compromise that allows any DACA person to stay is completely unacceptable, and I respect and am sympathetic to that opinion, but my personal view is that compromising a bit could result in gains that might be worth it. I think it is worth exploring.

He will. If Congress can get one passed.

I am going to bookmark this post to see which one of us is right.

DACA will end with amnesty.

Thanks Obama.

I don't know why you would think Congress is on any hot seat....they are the enemy of this administration and will continue to fight against it. You can bet any work they're doing is to oppose what Trump will do if they don't act....and we know they won't act.....unless of course they agree to let DACA people stay rather than enforce the Constitution...which they'll gladly do and say it was a bipartisan agreement for the good of the people. (themselves) DACA did not need to go to Congress...it was already "illegal" ...times up they must leave...end of story.

As for all the other you mentioned....they will drag it out til dooms day!

Sigh.

It’s like talking to a robot that can’t even understand how illogical their own nonsense sounds.
just a few weeks ago, you people swore that ja-vank....or whatever the hell you call them, have convinced Trump to not even touch the issue.

Now they convinced him to do the opposite, to needlessly get the GOP to make it legal....to basically keep it in place.... because reasons and javanko.

You sound like a child, but I doubt that you are. “Butthurt”. Right. If I was Trump’s campaign manager, Kathy Shelton would have become Hillary’s running mate, and I would have used first-person tragic stories to emotionally cripple the left’s arguments.
Pal, every day I am grateful to God that Trump is President, and Hillary is not. Believe it or not; I don’t care what you think about me.

I'd agree to amnesty for daca if those conditions were met. No welfare, NO crime, NO voting. If we pass the RAISE act and build the wall...

Unfortunately I think you’re right......”DACA will end with amnesty.”....and they’ll add something or other onto it to make it look like ‘THEY’VE’ been fair to all sides and the grandstanding..I can see it now!

You are the one who initiated the incivility on this slamming me when Trump came out with this over the weekend. I have no expectation of persuading you on anything.

And your idiotic denials of Trump’s plain statements are ridiculous.

Trump has made it clear that he wants Congress to continue DACA by legalizing it—since it wasn’t legal in its present form. But you are clearly impervious to plain English readings and logic.

You are accusing me of somehow being inconsistent but I am pretty sure I didn’t say anything about them convincing Trump not to touch the issue. He has now touched it, pressed by a legal deadline, but making it clear he wants Congress to encode it.

Jivanka are pro-amnesty. Ivanka considered making it one of her signature issues when Trump one, but decided to make it one of those where she said she wouldn’t be taking public credit, but she thought you could see her influence in the actions that her father’s admin would end up taking. She called it pretty well, IMO.
