While thoughts and prayers are with our Texas FRiends and neighbors, we are at the peak of the Atlantic Tropical Storm season. Hurricane Irma continues its trek from Cape Verde across the pond and toward the Hebert Box (see below). People with interests in the Southeastern U.S. and Gulf of Mexico should be alert to the forecast path updates for this powerful storm. It is important to note that the average NHC track errors are about 175 and 225 statute miles at days 4 and 5, respectively.
Hurricane Irma originally had a small wind field. In the past 24 hours, however, the wind field has expanded with hurriance force winds up to 40 miles from the center, and tropical storm force winds up to 140 miles from the storm center.
FL Governor Rick Scott reminds Floridians: Families should take time today to make sure you have a disaster plan and fully-stocked Disaster Supply Kit. Florida residents from West Palm Beach to Tampa Bay are heeding the alert. Store shelves are emptying of bottled water.

WHAAT.??
Your neighbors are right. Charley was...intense. But it wasn’t a large hurricane and it didn’t linger. What lingered was the 10 days without power in 90-plus degree humidity! But, we got by, had neighborhood cookouts and helped each other. Since that summer (3 hurricanes) my appreciation for ice and a/c has been deep!
Welcome to Florida!
Nice satellite images. Thanks for the post!
What is this season’s chocolate of choice? My hope is the wind pattern out of the ENE over the Florida channel changes by Friday. It looks to me to be a stronger Katrina, that popped over Florida before exploding. I’m no expert. My prayers are for it to unexpectedly become a fish storm.
All 67 FL counties—Gov. Scott declared State of Emergency this afternoon.
I sincerely hope you get out, FRiend.
Prayers sent!
I will accept your concession.
You’ve destroyed any credibility you may have had anyway with your ignorant comments.
It’s clear you have no idea what you are talking about.
you are wrong and wrong
those are anomalies.as in departure from normal..not actual water temperatures...
and tropical systems aren’t like thunderstorms in the plains over land.all other things equal they actually strengthen at night .....this period is known as DMAX
Dmax: Diurnal Maximum is an intense flare up at convection just before sunrise and DMIN is the opposite. Dmax occurs just before sunrise when the differences in temperatures between the ocean and the air are the greatest; helps to create instability and convection
Always dark chocolate, and preferably something that will survive if and when the electricity goes out.
Thanks! We love it down here. I’ll be following this thread. These hurricane threads are so informative.
C = up the middle?
No good options at this point.
Honestly though, the least amount of damage is going to be if the storm takes a sudden turn north before it gets to FL and goes up the east coast.
That way everything will be on the left side of the storm, the *better* side to be on, and cutting off half it’s fuel as it moves up the coast will weaken it as fast as possible.
“Again, it is basic physics that “greenhouse gasses” raise the temperature of the planet. Go read Roy Spencer’s site:”
Scientifically complete and utter bullsh_t.
M&M's hold up pretty well in the heat.
If you select the “Premium” tab at the middle of the upper toolbar you’ll get access to Bastardi’s Daily video Update.
I got as far as post 213.
Why are so many people getting angry at each other on this thread?
Chill out, people!
We’re all in this together! FReeper = FRiends!!!!!
p.s. We still can't rule out the GOM...
i read the waters in Florida bay are over 90-degrees while they are in the high 80’s near the reef...
Frayed nerves—and very possibly between folks who aren’t in the path of this storm. I don’t get it either.
the larger new eye is now trying to pop out on the infrared
Novel idea. Thanks for the informative threads.
