Hurricane Harvey Live Thread Part II
Various ^ | 8/26/2017 | Various

Posted on 08/26/2017 4:39:50 AM PDT by NautiNurse

Hurricane Harvey made landfall near Rockport TX about 10:00PM CDT Friday night. Top sustained winds were 130mph. Rockport High School sustained heavy damage when a portion of the roof collapsed. A senior housing complex collapsed. The Rockport courthouse sustained major damage with “a cargo trailer halfway in the building.” Multiple tornadoes reported in the Houston/Galveston areas. There are reports of scattered structural fires and a shooting was reported in Corpus Christi. Residents along the San Bernard River were advised to evacuate and most TX Gulf coast counties are under flash flood watches.

Many locations are under a boil-water notice. Power outages are widespread. President Donald Trump promptly granted a Disaster Declaration to Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s request. More than 700 members of the Texas Army and Air National Guards, Texas State Guard and the Texas Military Department have been activated and are positioning themselves throughout the state ahead of Hurricane Harvey and its anticipated landfall later this week. Ahead of the storm, FEMA sent supplies from its warehouse in Fort Worth to a staging point at Randolph Air Force Base near San Antonio.

My mind still can’t grasp the devastation unfolding in my city. Really hope to see or hear Trump on the news today addressing what is unfolding. Texans are a hearty lot, but this is just too much to hold on our own.

I wonder how the electric grid is holding up? If most of it goes down & stays down for long, the problems will be hugely multiplied.

The Police Chief is very worried about water coming down area rivers too, making for long term flooding. I have to wonder how many people may be trapped for several days or more?

Prayers for all...

KHOU just had a report showing that they themselves have become an island.

Uh-oh... Is the KHOU feed down, or is it hopefully “just me”?

I say uh-oh” because, as much as we would like to stuff most of what the media spouts most of the time down their throats, at a time like this, their city, or at least part of it, needs them.

The KHOU feed is still good. Watching interview with Harris County judge. The station says they don’t see anyway they will not be flooded once water is released from the two retention reservoirs when they fill up.

Uh oh. KHOU is about to flood due to the heavy rain from the street now overtopping a brick wall and entering the reception area. Everyone is moving to the second floor of the station. Employee vehicles in their parking lot are going under water.

The ABC station is recommending people get on their roofs (not in their attics) if need be. If people have, say 4’ of water in the house, and no ladder, that might be tough to do from outside the house. Then there is the threat of severe t-storms, lightning, even tornados. One can run out of good options in a hurry.

I’d go to the attic & hack through the roof if need be (as I have tools to do so.)

I still can’t get the KHOU live feed. Network error 404, or something like that. (Even the error message does not display, now, although the website itself is still up.) Am watching the ABC station’s feed now, but, KHOU seemed to me to be doing a better job, until they “died” on me.

KHOU is online. Don't know your feed source. May need to close browser, reboot, empty cache, etc.

KHOU has water coming into the studio, and they will be moving upstairs at some point. Said when they do that, the broadcast will be rudimentary. For now, they are still in the studio and getting reports from street reporters around the area.

I did all that, now the feed is working. It seems like the reboot is what did the trick - not sure why. Thanks!

Going have to make a decision how much water to release from the Dams....

don’t won’t the loose the dams but of course any release will add to the flooding downstream

Judge Robert Hebert says Barker Reservoir May not Protect Us from Harvey

KATY (Covering Katy News) – The homes of Cinco Ranch reisdents who live near the Barker Reservoir are in real danger of flooding today. This information is coming from Fort Bend County Judge Robert Hebert. He includes homes in the Canyon Gate subdivision in his warning. There are neighborhoods in Harris County like Greentrails and Kelliwood that are also in danger.

“At the time of this release, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers forecasts that the water elevation within the Barker Reservoir will reach record levels,” Hebert said.

Given the judge’s statement, it is clear that all residents who live near the reservoir should prepare for potential evacuation. They don’t have to evacuate at this time but they should begin to think about that possibility – where they would go and what they would do in the event they had floodwaters at their front door.

Storms that hit the Katy area last year pushed the Barker Reservoir to its limits, but Hebert believes this year could be worse. If Harvey produces at or above forecasted rainfall amounts on Sunday, many streets will become impassable and the water will begin to threaten several thousand homes as it advances past the reservoir boundaries, according to Hebert’s statement.

KHOU is broadcasting from a conference room upstairs because their studio was flooding. All of the folks on-air are totally sleep deprived. Hat tip to them.

Report of air rescue from rooftop--means sunrise is nearing and there is a break in the rain.

fyi--KHOU is also available via roku with same Live Feed as online if anyone is interested.

KHOU does not have remote coverage for now as they are moving to the second floor. Below is the live link for Fox 26 (which is sometimes shown on Fox News):
