Hurricane Harvey made landfall near Rockport TX about 10:00PM CDT Friday night. Top sustained winds were 130mph. Rockport High School sustained heavy damage when a portion of the roof collapsed. A senior housing complex collapsed. The Rockport courthouse sustained major damage with a cargo trailer halfway in the building. Multiple tornadoes reported in the Houston/Galveston areas. There are reports of scattered structural fires and a shooting was reported in Corpus Christi. Residents along the San Bernard River were advised to evacuate and most TX Gulf coast counties are under flash flood watches.
Many locations are under a boil-water notice. Power outages are widespread. President Donald Trump promptly granted a Disaster Declaration to Texas Governor Greg Abbotts request. More than 700 members of the Texas Army and Air National Guards, Texas State Guard and the Texas Military Department have been activated and are positioning themselves throughout the state ahead of Hurricane Harvey and its anticipated landfall later this week. Ahead of the storm, FEMA sent supplies from its warehouse in Fort Worth to a staging point at Randolph Air Force Base near San Antonio.

Thread I: Potentially Catastrophic Hurricane Harvey Approaches Texas Gulf Coast
Those buses in NO were all owned by a private company, not the city. Also all insured. So you support the govt confiscating (stealing) private property?
You do understand what a crisis is and threat of human life don’t you?
In a life or death storm emergency situation vehicles can be commandeered, if it was mine I’d be highly upset but if it was me or someone I loved getting evacuated when I had no other way, I’d be grateful.
Mayor of Rockport says, “contrary to social media reports, I have no confirmed reports of fatalities” from the storm.
The outermost bands of Harvey are even helping Dallas stay cool today.it’s 77° at 2:30pm here. Totally overcast.
Be careful out there y'all. Found on a street near us in League City! pic.twitter.com/ThXhl9CJTY— Eric Berger (@SpaceCityWX) August 26, 2017
I’m glad to see you checking in, Jane. I. Hoping and praying for the best possible outcome for you and all South Texans.
Please update us as you can.
Just about to bring those dishes to your attention.

Metal skin, shingles, siding off commercial buildings, Rockport and Fulton. Disconcerting to see, twisted structural steel in there, but most was, at boat storage, with point loads up high, big doors failed...too early to call windspeed there.
Other vids, residential construction, roofs and some walls gone, one instance of a whole floor’s walls MIA, so solid F2, one instance of F3.
My concerns include Rockport grade, school, used as a shelter, cots under long span gym roof before landfall, and newest models. Four models indicate a Laredo potential. Apt complex in Rockport lost 2nd floor, still waiting for info on nursing home collapse.
Sure, here was lots of buses out there. But guess what? You can't find drivers thatTranscript: Meet The Press September 11, 2005
would stay behind with a Category 5 hurricane, you know, pending down on New
Orleans. We barely got enough drivers to move people on Sunday, or Saturday and
Sunday, to move them to the Superdome. We barely had enough drivers for that. So
sure, we had the assets, but the drivers just weren't available.
No real updates, from Port Aransas and Aransas Pass yet either, and they were under same density eyewall as Rockport and Fulton, and they didn’t get any break from the eye.
Yep...watch for gators and other creeping things.....they’ll be out and about too!
Residents in Senior Housing can take care of themselves-and could evacuate if asked to do so.
That depends on what the term "Senior Housing" covers. And, these places tend to let residents stay on, when in considerably poorer shape than they could be admitted in. (This is from direct experience with both of my parents, and friends' families, too.)
Independent Living? My Mom's in that, no longer drives, and would require the assistance / attendance of at least one fairly strong 140 lb. person anytime she had to walk (with her walker) 100 ft. or more.
Assisted Living? At the end, my Dad was good for maybe 50 ft. without his wheelchair, and pretty much needed someone pushing when in the wheelchair, if going over 10 ft. or so. His ability to follow simple commands was getting very dicey, too.
Those in "Senior Apartments" which are basically just normal apts. with senior residents in good shape / fully taking care of themselves in normal circumstances would, of course, need much less assistance.
To modify a phrase, "I report, you decide." :-(
Looters already outand slithering, but one of em sent a stern message to any other hopefuls, on his way to the ER.
If you haven’t joined this already, you may be interested in doing so.

Good to know I can come onto your property and take whatever I need.
Eh, should be “140 lb. or more”
In a life threatening situation....yes.
The buses were all insured, plus the owner would not want to put his employees at risk driving buses during a hurricane. Sometimes people like yourself have to make your own decisions on evacuating instead of waiting for Uncle Sugar to do it all for you.
Where on earth did you get ‘confiscate’ from my post?
Guarantee you the taxpayers bought that company all new buses somehow. The graft after katrina was absolutely legendary.
YOU can’t (legally), but in some cases, the gov’t can.
