Hurricane Harvey made landfall near Rockport TX about 10:00PM CDT Friday night. Top sustained winds were 130mph. Rockport High School sustained heavy damage when a portion of the roof collapsed. A senior housing complex collapsed. The Rockport courthouse sustained major damage with a cargo trailer halfway in the building. Multiple tornadoes reported in the Houston/Galveston areas. There are reports of scattered structural fires and a shooting was reported in Corpus Christi. Residents along the San Bernard River were advised to evacuate and most TX Gulf coast counties are under flash flood watches.
Many locations are under a boil-water notice. Power outages are widespread. President Donald Trump promptly granted a Disaster Declaration to Texas Governor Greg Abbotts request. More than 700 members of the Texas Army and Air National Guards, Texas State Guard and the Texas Military Department have been activated and are positioning themselves throughout the state ahead of Hurricane Harvey and its anticipated landfall later this week. Ahead of the storm, FEMA sent supplies from its warehouse in Fort Worth to a staging point at Randolph Air Force Base near San Antonio.

Thread I: Potentially Catastrophic Hurricane Harvey Approaches Texas Gulf Coast
Virtually every existing stream will be overflowing its banks, so yeah - new rivers will have to form: the water has to get downhill somehow. This is going to be epic-bad level.
He sent a big umbrella, but the truckers union went on strike.
One problem is the current position of the center of circulation will keep storm surge piled up in Galveston Bay, which slows drainage.
Earlier posts showed Dallas at ‘light’. I see it is now 1-2”.

Just heard from my friends in Corpus. They did not lose power, which is pretty amazing. Cell service has been shaky though. Family members, along with millions of others, did lose power though.
Did you watch Jeff Piotrowski at all last night? He sat through the entire first 1/2 (before the eye) at a car wash. This little blue shed never budged. Everything else got destroyed but the shed.
The storm surge is just wicked out there as well.
Have you watched his video’s from last night while he was in his truck during the inner bands? My goodness - intense!
Yes, several of us followed Jeff P. last night. #blueshed trended on Twitter. I want a blue shed too!
The whole county was under a mandatory evacuation. NICU babies and their families were moved to Ft. Worth out of danger. Remember Katrina when nursing home residents were abandoned to die. Some administrators don't want the expense and some families don't care enough about grandma to move her themselves.
Is Jeff still live tweeting? I can’t find him.
It was Senior Housing, not a nursing home.
Residents in Senior Housing can take care of themselves-——and could evacuate if asked to do so.
.
Thanks much for the well wishes/prayers.
We are between bands, now, and the sun is actually shining (hallelujah!) and the water (mini lake that formed) in our back yard has almost completely drained!!! Yay!
And, looks like Harvey may just (hopefully) dissipate in the next few days!!
Kinda looks like Harvey is trying to make that left hand loop back that was talked about.
Could be, although it doesn’t appear that Harvey is making progress in any direction just now. Pretty much stalled, unfortunately.
If you do the loop on this one it sure looks like it is moving NW.

Jeff was streaming from the eye, so we know he survived the car warsh. I had radar velocities on the back side of the eyewall close to those on the front, but they moved thru somewhat quicker.
Could be a little jog to the left. Hard to say for certain at this point.
