Those buses in NO were all owned by a private company, not the city. Also all insured. So you support the govt confiscating (stealing) private property?

In a life or death storm emergency situation vehicles can be commandeered, if it was mine I’d be highly upset but if it was me or someone I loved getting evacuated when I had no other way, I’d be grateful.
Mayor of Rockport says, “contrary to social media reports, I have no confirmed reports of fatalities” from the storm.

Metal skin, shingles, siding off commercial buildings, Rockport and Fulton. Disconcerting to see,twisted structural steel in there, but most was, at boat storage, with point loads up high, big doors failed...too early to call windspeed there.
Other vids, residential construction, roofs and some walls gone, one instance of a whole floor’s walls MIA, so solid F2, one instance of F3.
My concerns include Rockport grade,school, used as a shelter, cots under long span gym roof before landfall, and newest models. Four models indicate a Laredo potential. Apt complex in Rockport lost 2nd floor, still waiting for info on nursing home collapse.

Residents in Senior Housing can take care of themselves-——and could evacuate if asked to do so.
That depends on what the term "Senior Housing" covers. And, these places tend to let residents stay on, when in considerably poorer shape than they could be admitted in. (This is from direct experience with both of my parents, and friends' families, too.)
Independent Living? My Mom's in that, no longer drives, and would require the assistance / attendance of at least one fairly strong 140 lb. person anytime she had to walk (with her walker) 100 ft. or more.
Assisted Living? At the end, my Dad was good for maybe 50 ft. without his wheelchair, and pretty much needed someone pushing when in the wheelchair, if going over 10 ft. or so. His ability to follow simple commands was getting very dicey, too.
Those in "Senior Apartments" which are basically just normal apts. with senior residents in good shape / fully taking care of themselves in normal circumstances would, of course, need much less assistance.
To modify a phrase, "I report, you decide." :-(

In a life threatening situation....yes.
The buses were all insured, plus the owner would not want to put his employees at risk driving buses during a hurricane. Sometimes people like yourself have to make your own decisions on evacuating instead of waiting for Uncle Sugar to do it all for you.

Guarantee you the taxpayers bought that company all new buses somehow. The graft after katrina was absolutely legendary.
