Hurricane Harvey made landfall near Rockport TX about 10:00PM CDT Friday night. Top sustained winds were 130mph. Rockport High School sustained heavy damage when a portion of the roof collapsed. A senior housing complex collapsed. The Rockport courthouse sustained major damage with a cargo trailer halfway in the building. Multiple tornadoes reported in the Houston/Galveston areas. There are reports of scattered structural fires and a shooting was reported in Corpus Christi. Residents along the San Bernard River were advised to evacuate and most TX Gulf coast counties are under flash flood watches.
Many locations are under a boil-water notice. Power outages are widespread. President Donald Trump promptly granted a Disaster Declaration to Texas Governor Greg Abbotts request. More than 700 members of the Texas Army and Air National Guards, Texas State Guard and the Texas Military Department have been activated and are positioning themselves throughout the state ahead of Hurricane Harvey and its anticipated landfall later this week. Ahead of the storm, FEMA sent supplies from its warehouse in Fort Worth to a staging point at Randolph Air Force Base near San Antonio.

Thread I: Potentially Catastrophic Hurricane Harvey Approaches Texas Gulf Coast
Olsteen is low hanging fruit, so they were quick to jump on him. People of good sense dislike him, but I think he has a valid reason not opening up his megachurch.
Truth be told, I stole that joke from a Texan I know very well...
Looking for link to today’s ACE press conference re Addick Reservoir.
Looking for inflow rates to combined Addick-Barker impoundment.
Real nice, would be an animated model based projection showing spillover sewuencing, and travel of resultant head down Buffalo Bayou, but I’m not greedy.
Looking for reports on interaction between Cypress Creek and Addicks watershed.
Looking for updates on Cypress Creek levee.
Not asking you to research fir me, just outlining where I think critical questions lie.

Hurricane Harvey in Houston Addicks and Barker Reservoirs Update
(This is from yesterday, but I just now found it while checking for Juan's latest Oroville update.)
extreme rainfall rates may be moving into the Beaumont port Arthur metro
any reports form there... looks like they had over 20 inches already
Go to one of the current YouTube links for channels 11 or 26 and rewind to listen to answers from flood control district’s Lindner. He covers this topic but it is a somewhat lengthy press conference. I will leave it to someone else to pick out the most important answers to these and many other questions.
Shame looks like a nice house.
That’s the southbound lanes of the West Loop, I-610, between Beechnut and North Braeswood, probably Sunday morning. The high water is from Braes bayou and the folks and pets would have been evacuating from Meyerland which has now flooded 3 times in 3 years. Sad!
Yipppeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
A couple of things I caught that are important.
Additional flooding from Addicks overtopping on Thursday 8/31.
Overtopping of Barker on Saturday 9/2.
Buffalo Bayou is draining slow due to historic rise in water level in the ship channel of 12 feet.
Similarly, flooding in San Jacinto River due to historic water level rise in Lake Houston.
I would appreciate any corrections to my recollection of these points made at the presser.
Police chief emotional while describing the death of Sgt. Steve Perez.
“...but I think he has a valid reason not opening up his megachurch.”
Just curious. What do you think that reason could be?
Are the neighborhoods around the church iffy? IOW, he’s worried about crime and property destruction by refugees?
Or could he be concerned about liability issues in case someone is injured or dies while staying at his church?
Easy answer: It was flooded!!

Wait, never mind on my previous post. I was scrolling backwards thru the thread and saw what looked like a lot of standing water at his church.
That’s probably the reason.
