PayPal Bans Jihad Watch from Accepting Donations

Online payment company PayPal has banned Jihad Watch and the site’s director Robert Spencer from accepting online donations using the service. PayPal has reportedly suspended the account of Jihad Watch, according to the website’s director, Robert Spencer. In a post on Jihad Watch calling for the boycott of PayPal, Spencer outlined his correspondence with the company over a number of emails. PayPal’s suspension of Spencer’s account came shortly after an article published by Lauren Kirchner of ProPublica who criticized tech companies such as PayPal that allow Jihad Watch to utilize their online services.

“Because of its “extreme hostility toward Muslims,” the website Jihadwatch.org is considered an active hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center and the Anti-Defamation League,” wrote Kirchner. “But its designation as a hate site hasn’t stopped tech companies — including PayPal, Amazon, and Newsmax — from maintaining partnerships with Jihad Watch that help to sustain it financially.”

Shortly after the publication of this article that PayPal contacted Spencer with an email which stated,

Dear Robert Spencer,

We have recently reviewed your usage of PayPal’s services, as reflected in our records and on your website https://www.jihadwatch.org. Due to the nature of your activities, we have chosen to discontinue service to you in accordance with PayPal’s User Agreement. As a result, we have placed a permanent limitation on your account.

We ask that you please remove all references to PayPal from your website. This includes removing PayPal as a payment option, as well as the PayPal logo and/or shopping cart.

If you have a remaining balance, you may withdraw the money to your bank account. Information on how to withdraw money from your PayPal account can be found via our Help Center.

Are Paypal going to mailout a yellow armband as well? This is totalitarian.

This is where it is going.

I recommend that people try to use alternative services. Also support OANN.

One America News Network.

Christian bakers get put out of business for refusing to bake a wedding cake for homosexuals, but PayPal is allowed to reject business from a blogger? I hope he sues them.

Sue PayPal, Southern Poverty Law Center, and the Anti-Defamation League for defamation, discrimination, and deprivation of constitutional rights.

Do you mean, Lauren, that Jihad Watch is beheading mohammedans? That kind of “extreme hostility”?

We need to go after “Big Tech” with anti-trust legislation.
When Facebook and Google don’t like a viewpoint, their discrimination and limitations impact your first amendment rights because they control so much of the public square.

We went after Microsoft a decade or more ago for bundling an operating system with a browser. Google controls a browser, search engine, most advertising revenue online, content (including Youtube) and social media site. Not only are they discriminating against conservative and libertarian content, they are now going after INDIVIDUALS.

Dr. Jordan Peterson and statistics professor Salil Mehta are two examples that I know of. These personal attacks result in loss of correspondence, files, income, speech ... that is a threat to all of our freedoms.

The question begs.... Is FR next?

The way I see it, getting Daily Stormer banished from the internet set the precedent. Google was able to dip their toes in the water and see how easy it was. After all, nobody liked Daily Stormer, a vile Nazi site.

Now that they've established the ability to do so, why not highlight a few posts on FR that use the word "faggot" or "mudslimes" and declare this place a hate site as well?

Google isn't playing around. People here don't seem to be taking this stuff seriously. Big Tech don't give a crap about fairness, or equal time, or opposing viewpoints, or freedom of speech. They're about to change the internet as we know it and it's going to happen fast. It's going to snowball. And the next thing we know, "controversial" viewpoints (i.e. conservative) are going to vanish one after the next.

Someone really ought to wake up Jeff Sessions.

Too many lawyers are liberals who agree with driving conservatives off the web, impoverishing them by costing them their jobs, etc.

Correct.

Freedom of speech only has value for unpopular speech.
Unpopular with the gov’t and the majority of the public.

Protecting our freedom of speech means protecting the freedom of speech of those with which we disagree. If we can’t do that, we don’t deserve it ourselves.

Good. The more growth it has, the sooner it can break into the mainstream media's revenue stream. Eventually it will be able to stand against them and deliver some well needed truth to the existing media propaganda system.
