A Navy guided-missile destroyer, the USS John S. McCain, collided with a commercial vessel east of Singapore early Monday morning local time, the Navy said.
There were 10 sailors missing and five injured, the Navy said.
The collision with the merchant ship Alnic MC occurred east of the Straits of Malacca and Singapore at 6:24 a.m. Japan Standard Time, as the McCain was on its way for a routine port visit in Singapore, the Navy said.

I really don’t know why ships, schools, roads, parks, bridges etc are named after living persons.
John McCain name has cursed this ship and its crew.
The thought of a USS John McCain turns my stomach.
It is not named for the current senator. The ship is named jointly for the father and grandfather, both deceased and both were distinguished US Navy Admirals. Whatever one thinks about the senator, the ship is not named for him but he happens to share the name.
The best way not to run into another ship is you don't continue on a collision course. It's pretty easy. It takes some training because instead of a pedal, brakes and steering wheel, you have to learn to use your words: all stop, or ahead flank, or left 20 degrees rudder, steady course 180. And because ships are slow to respond, you have to think ahead. But anyone who can drive a car has the requisite skills to avoid going around hitting things.
Nothing would shock me when it comes to Obama.
