If they start messing with the monuments at Gettysburg, they will start Civil War #2.
Saying the Civil War was fought about slavery is equivalent to saying the Revolutionary War was fought about tea; it discredits those who fought for both sides. Given the numerous letters from soldiers from both sides, it is clear that very few gave a damned about slavery or blacks in general... men go to war for honor, duty, to defend their kin and clan and for the right to shape their own destiny.
Cannot disagree with that
So forbidding slavery should be rescinded? Brilliant. And the right of descendants of freedmen to vote, too?
CW won’t start until the Antifa tries to start their antics up in a southern Red State.
bump from a 5x Gettysburg visitor...
They seem to be the only ones on the ballot. I think Reagan was the last time I voted for someone instead of against the other person.
People need to forget the idea that Leftists give a crap about any of this. They are using it strictly to attack Trump supporters. It is a huge fraud only believed in by the weak-minded suckers, the Useful Idiots.
It started with the removal of Christian symbols from the public square, this is just the latest iteration.
Hatred of American tradition is at the core.
Unfortunately for your argument, the leaders of the Confederacy made it clear that the war was about slavery for them. For the United States it was about preserving the Union not ending slavery.
I was raised in the South and steeped in the history of the Lost Cause but now see it as a gigantic mistake on the part of the Southern states. BTAIM the monuments are ALL part of MY history whether I agreed with those being memorialized or not. I do not have to support slavery to appreciate the Confederate generals.
Some have spoken of the reconciliation of the opponents after the war and the mutual respect they have for their ex-opponents that has happened after WWII as well.
Were it not for a great Gen. Lee there would never have been a great Gen. Grant, without a great James Longstreet there would not have been a great Sherman.
Greater glory comes from struggle with a great opponent.
What state do you think would bring slavery back? What state Would revoke anybodies vote? Those amendments did the job they were made to do and things are not suddenly going to return to the way it was before. It simply will decentralize federal power like it needs to be.
When an amendment is removed it would return the laws to the state prior to the amendment. Far too many people are slaves anyway so it might not make any difference.
You are dreaming if you believe it would reduce federal power in any significant manner.
So true. That reminds me I should probably order Ken Burns The Civil War on DVD before it mysteriously disappears from the NPB catalogue.
No, we’re dedicated Christians and we know what “ghosts” really are. She never saw any.
Agree. For me Stonewall was one hell of an officer, crap teacher though at VMI.
He was fighting 3 armies in the valley, and still they could not pin him down, and he would go to a battle expecting to destroy the enemy.
Good point
Right, no barbed wire near the monuments, please! That would destroy the haunting beauty of this battlefield, where so many fell. Simply install lots of surveillance cameras near every monument if the Park Service hasn't done this already.
That, plus a high security perimeter fence for the entire park. The American public will support the expense.
Wow that was good!
Jealous. :)
Thank you.
Well, that’s the irony. Most of the idiots wanting to tear down statues wouldn’t know where to look for them unless someone pointed them out.
