where an influx of asylum seekers, primarily Haitians,

It baffles me to know end that Haitians should be leaving their tropical paradise. Just across the hill in the Dominican Republic, life is far better. Don't see them leaving except to join a major league baseball team.

Know someone who traveled to the DR. He said he had a great time and everybody there was a baseball fan. He also said they have a strong border presence to keep Haitians out.

Some schools in NYC are 60% Dominican born or Dominican parentages. A lot more Dominicans than just shortstops leave the DR. In fact back in 92 Mayor Dinkins was asked about the unprecedented numbers coming to NYC from the DR said ig would be foolish to stay in yhe DR since with welfare and meficaid and foodstamps they would have a lot better life here in NY. Many found sealift to PR, paid for forged birth certs and came to NY as legal Puerto Ricans, even though someone as unskilled in Spanish as me could tell the difference from the accents.

Dominicans won’t let them in. They’ve seen what Voudoo does to a civilization.
