They say a picture is worth a thousand words and that one is proof of that. In that situation what does he do? He cannot go forward or backward without the possibility of running over people. The people do not look friendly to say the least and at least some are obviously armed with deadly weapons.
I don’t have all the details and I know this picture cannot show everything in sequence but that picture is hard to explain any other way than that he is under attack. At least at that moment he is under attack.
I pray this man gets a fair trial, and I pray for his jurors to have an open mind and carefully consider all the evidence.

The video showing some guy taking a cheap swipe at the back of the car with a stick or something, as the car, moving forward, passed him.
It will be a stretch to argue that that action alone caused the driver to panic, but when combined with any evidence of rocks being thrown, or any other physical threats, the defendant might try to make that argument.
Personally, I think he's in big trouble either way.
Earlier, on another thread, I had wondered if evidence of his political views would be admissible. I would speculate "yes", but I'm not a legal expert. If the answer to that question is "yes", then his ass is grass...

most late model cars can be controlled by a computer that is linked to the cars computer. Worked at a new car dealership a few years ago, and the dealer link to the factory computer system can affect control settings,mostly for testing and downloading updates, but that link can be manipulated. Just saying there’s a possibility...

Man jumps in prized car he probably saved all his money to purchase, then decides to run protesters down, knowing his car is going to be damaged doing it, and he will be caught and thrown in jail.
Man driving prized car in unfamiliar hostile environment, has things thrown at car, has car hit by some object being swung like a baseball bat, has people crowding around car, and loses control of car.
Really? Why not? Were you in the car with the driver? Do you know what he was doing there or where he was going?
When you are surrounded by a hostile mob who is attacking your car, you certainly can run them over, legally.

The best video of the first collision that I have seen is one Tucker Carlson showed tonight where the defendant's vehicle strikes a black and white car from the rear at a high enough speed to damage seriously the black and white car's rear fender and the driver's car's front fender. There are one to three people between the two vehicles and the impact is enough to send at least one of them partially flying over the black and white car. It's essential to know why the defendant did that, as it was essential to know why George Zimmerman shot Trayvon Martin.
Right now it's impossible, in good faith, even to say that the defendant "deliberately ran into people," just as it was impossible to say, in good faith, that Zimmerman "gunned down poor Trayvon like a dog." Indeed, I've seen no present evidence that the decedent was struck in that first collision. If you have any, please share it with the rest of us.
Odd, how on the flimsiest of evidence, you're anxious to convict that young man without a trial and "Hang him." Sounds like a lynching to me, just like the Klan giving some poor black man a "fair trial" on a bogus rape charge before they hang him. Sounds like we all need to stay home so we don’t encounter a nasty mob in the street. It is possible for that to happen many places now, a lot of places actually. If we do encounter thugs in the street anything that happens is our fault for being there. Unreal.
If a guy who looks like a muslim opens fire on a crowd with an AK-47 while yelling “Allah Akbar” I have no problem designating it as Islamic terrorism before the authorities deliver their verdict.
If the guy involved here told people that he was going to run over protesters, I would throw the rope over the branch myself.
But there is something wrong with just labeling this an intentional act.
My grandfather remarried at the age of 86, and was still driving. One day, my dad went out to lunch with my grandfather and his new wife. While my dad walked his stepmother up to the front door, my grandfather went to park the car.
He had neuropathy, and when he put the car in gear, he thought he had his foot on the brake. The car began to move forward, and my grandfather, thinking he hadn’t put his foot down enough, really put his foot down.
The car shot up the hill, over the lawn, and crushed his new wife against the house. My dad had to put a tourniquet on her leg to keep her from bleeding to death, she lost her leg and spent the rest of her life in a wheelchair.
To me, the concept of someone losing control of a car (particularly a muscle car that can have up to a 700 HP engine in it) because the driver’s foot slipped off the brake and onto the gas is not far fetched. It is, in my opinion, more rational than saying this was a premeditated attack wth a car as the murder weapon, especially since having the car appears to have been a lifelong dream of the man, and I don’t think he would have readily trashed it.
Seems to me some cowards in the media, the government, and right here on Free Republic just want to signal virtue that they aren’t on the side of the Nazis by hanging a man without the facts or a trial.
I agree with everything you said!! Great points! The facts will come out in time and all of the keyboard judges and juries will know if their assumptions and presumptions were correct (or not).
