If a guy who looks like a muslim opens fire on a crowd with an AK-47 while yelling “Allah Akbar” I have no problem designating it as Islamic terrorism before the authorities deliver their verdict.

If the guy involved here told people that he was going to run over protesters, I would throw the rope over the branch myself.

But there is something wrong with just labeling this an intentional act.

My grandfather remarried at the age of 86, and was still driving. One day, my dad went out to lunch with my grandfather and his new wife. While my dad walked his stepmother up to the front door, my grandfather went to park the car.

He had neuropathy, and when he put the car in gear, he thought he had his foot on the brake. The car began to move forward, and my grandfather, thinking he hadn’t put his foot down enough, really put his foot down.

The car shot up the hill, over the lawn, and crushed his new wife against the house. My dad had to put a tourniquet on her leg to keep her from bleeding to death, she lost her leg and spent the rest of her life in a wheelchair.

To me, the concept of someone losing control of a car (particularly a muscle car that can have up to a 700 HP engine in it) because the driver’s foot slipped off the brake and onto the gas is not far fetched. It is, in my opinion, more rational than saying this was a premeditated attack wth a car as the murder weapon, especially since having the car appears to have been a lifelong dream of the man, and I don’t think he would have readily trashed it.

Seems to me some cowards in the media, the government, and right here on Free Republic just want to signal virtue that they aren’t on the side of the Nazis by hanging a man without the facts or a trial.
