It is easy for golfers to turn a blind eye to [their] privilege, athlete claims
A professional athlete has identified an unexpected source of white privilege at our institutions of higher education: the back nine.
Golf is a perfect example of the world we live in terms of the haves and have nots, writes Anya Alvarez at Salon.
Alvarez writes of discovering the white privilege in college sports when she learned that less-popular sports (such as golf) are often bankrolled by a universitys football and basketball programsthe labor, she writes, of African-American athletes on the football and basketball teams who make it possible for other sports to exist at universities.

OMG.
I have to leave this forum today. The headlines are going to make my head explode.
What’s the diversity ratios in the underwater basket weaving class?
It’s not closed to minorities. Who let Tiger Woods in? Who let Obama join?
OMG...what a dumbass.
Hey clueless: the “labor of black atheletes” fund stupid women’s sports too...
Apparently, the basketball and football programs in college are too Black. If quotas are what this Latina wants, no more than 13% of players on any sports team should be Black.
the labor, she writes, of African-American athletes on the football and basketball teams who make it possible for other sports to exist at universities.
Awwwww....Those poor, poor African-American athletes who have their whole education and living expenses paid for by the college...Their “labor” of playing a game which very well could lead them toward million dollar contracts as professional athletes....
Gee, what a surprise. While I could be wrong, I suspect that there’s another privilege that escaped her. I didn’t see any mention of the men’s sports most likely paying the tab for all of the women’s sports programs. That sounds a bit like female privilege to me.
Golf is closed to poor people - black or white. Transportation to the golf course. Buying golf clubs. Green fees. So is polo.
Every park has a basketball hoop and a field for baseball and football.
Seriously GFY!
Tell that to Tiger Woods, idiot.

... the title of a well recieved, peer review paper from the year 2097 that deals with the nasty question: is there anything really left to say?
seems Laz should be on this thread...
Asians are Caucasian? Who knew?
Maybe this golfer should take a look at the women’s circuit.
Google is on it too.
Google “ american inventors “
I got my last clubs at a pawn shop, loved them. I never had a complete set.
BTW, we walked, sometimes 18 holes in steaming heat. They probably don't allow it any more. And you forgot cart fees ;-(.
Like to illustrate my posts sometimes. A misty October morning in 2005. Look like white men to me. Can't really tell for sure. Hmmmmmmm.
So my nephew is a great golfer, gets up early to go to work (mow the golf course) gets in 9 holes - goes to school - his dad is a mid level state employee, his mom works for the church, they don’t have two dimes and have never gone on vacation. It is a privilege to get up at 5 to go to work before school - I wonder how many non-whites do that
Asians are very represented in college golf and the LPGA, which they dominate.
