New Yorkers need only look to Brooklyn — where a plaque honoring Gen. Robert E. Lee has been affixed to a maple tree outside a church for more than 100 years.

If the flag were being used to advance the cause of racism today, I would object to it. It isn’t.
People have a right to self identification, and I think Trump was wrong to do that.
IMO (and I could be wrong), people see the flag as a symbol of the South and not in the context of racial inequality. They merely see it as a symbol of being a down home boy of the South.
It wasn’t broadly used during the war, and it never meant what folks are trying to say it does now or did then.
It was a company banner as I understand it. I do not think the men fighting in that company were doing it to preserve slavery. I think it was more of a state’s rights issue. It was the Confederacy against the Union Army, and they were loyal to the Confederacy.
I’d have to dig a lot deeper to confirm this. This is however my perception.
The point is, Trump wants to ban it.
It’s not my place to do anything about it.
It’s our government’s job to enforce the laws of our nation.
I get your point, and am not trying to be argumentative about this point.
I disagree with that stance.
No two people will see eye to eye on every issue. I think he is misguided to play into this.
Look what capitulating on that issue has led to.
We should have put our foot down right there!
Now there’s an avalanche of items that are being demanded to be scrubbed from our public places.

I agree about who’s place it is to do something, but again, it doesn’t matter because they aren’t.

The left has gone down a path that is dark and dangerous and could potentially lead to violence. It seems that half this country is dedicated to turning the USA into a hybrid model of communism with an Orwellian twist.
It’s not the just the destruction of monuments I find unsettling, its the idea of where the line is drawn. Are books next? I’ve read that the communist Mayor in Louisville wants to create a panel that will review public art and determine if it’s racist or offensive.
How do we fight back? You march with a conservative group and one is branded as racist and faces getting doxed in social media.

Born and raised there, I knew he had something to do with the Forts around Brooklyn and Queens, but never knew of any plaque. Never cared one way or the other. Most folks who came here after the 1800’s couldn’t care less, they were here to make lives for themselves and not get stuck on past history. Maybe those who are doing all the violence should learn a lesson, but they won’t. Will Egypt destroy the Pharaoh’s tombs? Will Muslims destroy Mecca because they believed in slavery? “Stupid is what stupid does”. (Now there is a counter demo sign!)
