DURHAM

The protester who climbed a ladder to help bring down a Confederate soldier statue was arrested Tuesday, and Sheriff Mike Andrews said his office will pursue felony charges against others.

“Let me be clear, no one is getting away with what happened,” Andrews said.

Takiyah Thompson, a member of Workers World Party and student at N.C. Central University, was arrested after activists held a press conference at NCCU Tuesday afternoon.

In a release Thompson said she was the one who tied a rope around the soldier’s neck so that others could pull the statue to the ground.

The protest left The Confederate Soldiers Monument, dedicated on May 10, 1924, headless on the grass.

Thompson was charged with participation in a riot with property damage in excess of $1,500 (Class H Felony) and inciting others to riot where there is property damage in excess of $1,500 (Class F Felony), the Sheriff’s Office said.

She also was charged with disorderly conduct by injury to a statue and damage to real property, both misdemeanors.

As I posted yesterday, Loan Tran is also a member of the Workers World Party. Many of their signs are in Black and White, yellow and Black, or Orange and Black, using their fronts ANSWER and IAC (among others) to cover up their communist ideology.

There may not be Reds Under the Bed but they sure as hell are on our college campuses and nearby streets.

are they going to erect another statue or fix and put back up the old one?

The governor, Roy Cooper (D) stated that there are better ways to take those statues down.

When Cooper was AG he refused to prosecute Crystal Magnum who falsely accused the Duke Lacrosse team of rape. She went on to escalate her crimes from filing a false police report, prostitution and on to murder.

Police being present is irrelevant.

There is no exception in the law if the police are present. Did the police tell them it’s okay to tear it down. Answer: No

Good luck with that lame defense.

No the video shows a mob of people tearing down government property. Sorry that’s a felony.

When the prosecutor takes a look at the jury pool, she’ll be thinking plea.

City cops have every responsibility to uphold the law on county property. You are either ill informed or making it up.

Here’s the catch. If you plea guilty then some of the charges get dropped. Meaning less, fines, lawyer fees, and avoiding prison time. It saves you a lot of money, and you will move quicker to a normal life in a few years.

If she chooses to fight it in court, then you will face all charges. In other words she will be in court for a long time and that can get very expensive. Not only that but chances of you winning are still slim.

Since it’s an open shut case. There is no question if she did it. So she will be found guilty on that county. Now she can say her motivation on why she did it in hopes to get a judge to give her a minimum prison sentence. The law says if found guilty, then you have minimum prison time. If she is found guilty on all 4 counts because she wanted to fight it in court. She is probably looking at a minimum of 10 years in prison would be my guess? I really don’t know the sentencing guide lines of 2 felonies and 2 misdemeanors. Plus she will owe a large fine, have to pay for the new statue, and several years on probation where she has to visit and pay the probation officer.

In other words life is much easier if you plea guilty. Unfortunately, that’s the way it works. Part of the reason why we have the largest prison population in the world.

Yes, good question, it seems that the cops just stand by and watch massive crimes take place now. There is no law enforcement. Riots break out with people hitting other people with bats and no cops intervene. I want my country back, the rule of law back.

Takiyah had just a well drop out of school. All the degrees in the world won't get her a job with that felony conviction.

Well the Virginia State Police weren't worried about their mob. Only thing that held them back was the stand down order.
