WASHINGTON President Donald Trump told reporters Tuesday that the counter-protesters demonstrating against white nationalism were also to blame for the violence at race-fueled riots in Charlottesville, Virginia over the weekend.
There are two sides to a story. I thought what took place was a horrible moment for the country, but there are two sides to a story, the president said at Trump Tower in Manhattan.
He also said the statue of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee in Charlottesville was "very important" to the people who participated in the march, and asked whether opponents of such monuments were also prepared to take down statues to George Washington and Thomas Jefferson because they, too, owned slaves.
"I wonder is it George Washington next?" he asked.
His remarks double down on his remarks Saturday, threatening to undo any goodwill the president received by denouncing the Ku Klux Klan and neo-Nazis during a statement at the White House on Monday. The president was criticized for what many, including politicians on both sides of the aisle, saw as an initially tepid response in which he said many sides were to blame for the violence that killed one woman and injured 19 other people.
Trump defended the 48 hour delay Tuesday, saying he wanted to know the facts before condemning the white nationalists. He then equated the white supremacists on the right to the alt-left.

I read about a third of your article on 1968 in 2003. I like what I saw. Thank you for your serious work at trying to wake people up. Much more serious than my feeble attempts here at free republic. It’s comforting to know the future lies in the capable hands of younger folks like you. I, too, had a weakness for red headed girls once. My SIL has fire truck read hair and all my grandkids can put a stop sign to shame.
I still say we need to shut Antifa down. These are violent thugs who embolden folks like Schumer and Pelosi. We really are “at war” and in war you take what allies you can get. These Antifa thugs need to be shown that these aren’t “their streets”. It would be nice if the government would do it but for whatever reason they don’t. We have seen that when outnumbered they aren’t violent. Seems to me the thing we can do is simply outnumber them when ever they show up and humiliate them. They DON’T have the power nor is there legitimate power behind them. If the BSM wants to lie about who we are because of it, get used to it. They are calling us racists and whatever already and have been for years.
Sure it would be nice to sit back and let the knight on the white horse take care of it but we have been waiting for that for the 20 years (nearly) I have been a freeper and at some point along the way here we need to recognize that guy ain’t coming, or if he has and he is Trump he needs our help.
You do not have to school me on how heinous Nazis were. I think you meant "literal Nazis" if so, I believe you are gravely mistaken , those who call themselves Nazis today are merely mentally ill misfits and lunatic fringe , relatively harmless.
the group that backs ANTIFA has a lot more danger and power and money behind it than the pitiful harmless fake "nazis" you so much fear.
In fact the world has seen much more sinister evil than the Nazis , believe or not, Islam has caused more death and destruction, the crimes of hitler pale in comparison to the palestinian terror campaign or the 6 million sub Saharan Africans killed since 1990 by anti christian forces performing ethnic cleansing, and let us not forget the millions killed by Stalin in establishing communism , the pet project of the left , of which ATIFA is a tool.
I really do not agree with your statement that Trump is "a neophyte and narcissistic and *too stupid) I think he is just not "politically correct" enough for you because of your cognitive bias set.
you are very wrong about many, many things but believe you Know it all, i am afraid you are stuck in your flawed narrow belief system so any further discourse is meaningless
The thing I have to wonder is how many of the freepers that are recommending inaction because of one reason or another might already be infiltrators? I don’t know. In war things get messy. Even in highly regimented war with trained professionals. In war against unprincipled thugs it gets even worse. And when your brothers in arms have more enthusiasm than training or skill it gets real messy.
I seriously doubt war can be stopped or turned back at this point by letting groups like Antigua and BLM prowl unencumbered. They aren’t going to go away by being left alone and I think a good case can be made that they are providing the resolve for the Schumers and Pelosis an all. I do believe that if Antigua were outnumbered twenty to one the next time they tried to congregate we could get 0bamacare repealed and tax reform done with much less opposition.
BTW Ron , I dont think you are a bad guy or anything, just off track a bit IMO
Antigua ?????? Supposed to be nice there.
.
Stupid IPad spellchecker keeps doing that to me. I catch it most of the time but it slips through now and again.
Do you actually think that liberal politicians listen to the people anymore, however the people communicate their concerns? They’ve got their agenda, and THEY tell the ‘people’ what to believe. Their people soak up the agenda like mindless sponges.
The reason we’ve got Trump is because he is NOT a politician, didn’t play politician games, and talked ‘straight’ to us; and the aware and intelligent people in the country largely voted for him.
I think there are other possible ‘wars’ that you should be concerned about right now, rather than a possible civil one within our country. There’s no will for civil war among our average, decent citizens, regardless that some of the radical leftists - and, apparently, a few hot-head conservatives - might like to see it.
That is what I been trying to tell these guys. My sense is that most of these “Nazis” at 4chan see it as a lark. LARPing. They take it as serious as what skin they are gonna put on next time they log in.
Granted, if you have relatives a few generations back that went to Aushwitz or Dachau, I can see how you might be a little sensitive here. But if that sensitivity blinds you to the threat of BLM and Antifa, get a grip. My ancestors came here as indentured servants of the British King. They were at least as abused as blacks for generations and sent off to provide a buffer between the Brits in New York and the French in Quebec and literally fed to Indians in the Hudson Valley. It was ten generations ago. Get over it. I don’t hate the Brits over it and I sure as hell don’t expect “reparations”.
I am sure if you sift through the kids at 4chan who claim to be Nazis you will find some who actually are sociopathic misfits. If my generation, who are the last of the boomers can’t see that these young kids gotta find their own way through this and we are going to turn our backs on them because a literal handful want to be troublemakers it seems to me we are all lost. But then when you consider the odds arrayed against us, maybe we are. IMHO these kids need to be embraced and led by example. The way things are nowadays I gotta wonder if most of them have no father or a bad father in their lives. Some encouragement and guidance might do more to get them to drop the Nazi act than shunning them.
How about some realism? Barack Obama has fermented and planted the seed of racial hatred for eight years. It has only been a matter of time before a group such as the “alt-right” organized. The alt-right is the culmination of Obama’s race baiting. It makes absolutely no difference which conservative white man became POTUS after Obama, it would have been the same outcome.
Some time back a freeper pointed out that the DC politicians do “discount” the input they receive. So a handwritten letter is worth something like a hundred emails. Because a handwritten letter takes more time and expense. More effort is put in. A constituent in the streets has put in even more time and effort and they do notice and weigh that difference. So 1 citize in the street is worth like 100 letters which is worth like 10,000 emails.
When I flippantly said "So what?", I suppose I was referring to the issue of one group having a permit versus another group not having a permit. The right to Peaceably Assemble, last time I checked, doesn't require a permit, of course.
Perhaps I should have been clearer about the fact that no pile of "political garbage"—regardless of whether it's Right or Left, and regardless of whether it's "permitted" or not—has any right to suppress the Free Speech of another group with violence.
But I certainly wasn't wading into the idea of denying anyone's right to Free Speech, which is the accusation I took immediate exception to.
Having said that, I do reiterate my total disdain for these types of groups on the right, especially inasmuch as they seek to be "normalized" by trying to associate with "traditional" conservatives—decent working class people who harbor no racism or hate for anyone—and, additionally, my disdain also extends to the violent Leftist Antifa (LOL!) fascist pigs, and their sympathetic ilk in the Media, who diabolically seek to smear mainstream conservatives and Trump supporters by erroneously associating them with the likes of the haters and provocateurs who actually organized the rally.
The "Unite the Right" rally, IMHO, was a deliberately planned operation, at least partially instigated by the Soros crowd, and intended to smear President Trump and his supporters by associating them with actual hate groups, "plants" like Jason Kessler, provocateurs, and White Supremacist speakers.
Additionally, IMHO, the hate groups on the right—KKK, neo-Nazis, White Supremacists—and associated "speakers" like Richard Spencer—were exploited by these Soros elements, due to a desire to gain legitimacy by being associated with "legitimate" mainstream conservatives and Trump supporters.
The Democrats and Media (but I repeat myself), by willingly participating in this charade, once again confirmed that they are indeed the Enemy of the People—of that there can be no doubt.
Interestingly—and this is of critical importance—the overwhelming majority of the American people are perfectly aware of this attempted manipulation by the Uniparty Swamp. That is why the Propaganda Media—as Newt Gingrich calls it—is unable to effectively manipulate public opinion like it could in the past. That is also why their machinations invariably fail with respect to assassinating the character of both President Trump and his supporters.
The Media simply has no meaningful credibility left, having repeatedly overplayed its hand so grossly as to render itself aught but an occasionally comical—and routinely pathetic—circus sideshow.
Beginning with the 2016 election cycle and the abject failure to install Hillary Clinton in the White House—despite a concerted by the entire Uniparty Establishment—Democrats, GOPe, Media, Intelligentsia, Academia—Donald Trump and his "deplorables" unmasked these entities as malicious, anti-American subversives—exposing them—collectively and completely—as the Enemy of the People.
With their propaganda, lies, character assassination, and demonization of this President and his perfectly decent supporters, they are deliberately pushing this country to the brink of civil war. However, they've failed to think it through: they think We the People will "blink"—but we won't.
And when We the People don't blink, that's when the Enemy's breathtakingly profound miscalculation will become apparent, because if this country does have another civil war, it's going to be very brief and and incredibly lopsided, with the Uniparty Swamp and its benefactors bearing the brunt of the damage.
But I digress...
Both "sides" are leftist radicals.
That's it...we were spelling it wrong...it's actually:
anti-FA
Me neither, but since it's made up of leftist radical "re-enactors" pretending to be a fictitious Republican hate-group it actually means: Fake-right.
LOL! Many thanks to you, and to the others who have endeavored to enlighten me ;-)
But think about it. How many letters do you have to write to equal 5,000 people in the street.
Oh.
ha Ha ha.
I have no idea. But I’m not a materialistically-minded person who believes profoundly in numbers, science, statistics.
I believe profoundly in the power of God-given, heart-felt, human Idealism, and how that informs the intellect in people who are sincerely concerned about the future of Mankind and the future of Man’s institutions.
(If they had decided everything by ‘numbers’, the Founders would never have created this nation! If you think about it, America is sort of a miracle.)
