Because they are studying it in school, they should be allowed to vote? Wow.
>> Teachers could encourage voter registration, schools could be polling locations on election day, and voting will become as much of a senior class tradition as homecoming and pep rallies.
Well then, why not just lower it to 7? Don’t those grade school kids have rights? I’m sure that would give you an even bigger pool of democrat voters. Why pretend that the Republicans should even have a sliver of a chance? What a farce!
Why stop at 17? Why not just throw open the bar. In fact, why don’t we give pregnant women TWO votes?
If they can’t resposibly drink at 18 why the h*** are they allowed to responsibly vote or join the military (or are uni-party members just protecting their own college age kids)?
Yeah - Voting once every 2 years or 4 years is such a burden. Can they look up from their phones long enough to handle this ????
This idea is as foolish as raising the minimum wage to $15.00.
The minimum IQ for voting should definitely be raised to the Celsius temperature of the Arctic Ocean in order to exclude Naava Ellenberg.
Let’s go all the way to kindergarten.
Nope. Raise to 30 to allow for real life experiences.
I remember the time when the voting age was twenty-one and the Progressive Leftist cry was if a man of eighteen was eligible to fight for his country then he had a right to vote for the people that lead country.
The voting age of seventeen is a step beyond the pale.
Let’s be more forward thinking. Isn’t 13 good enough for voting, drinking, smoking dope, dabbling with opioids, sexual consent, marriage without parental approval, and abortion on demand? It’s the Progressive Way!
I support a repeal of that Amendment.
Then again, the Amendment that offered suffrage to females has also been a disaster for conservatives.
I strongly agree with you on the 26th amendment, and I sort of agree with you on the 19th amendment, but the one that did the most damage to the Nation was the 24th amendment.
Removing taxes as a requirement to vote is what has caused most of the mess in Washington. Now that they don't have to worry about getting punished by taxpayers, it has opened up the money spigot in Washington, and from that they have gotten even more power.
In some states, a 17 year-old still has to drive with an adult in the car...in the front seat, with a license of their own, and for good reason!
Absolutely.
I’d settle for 26/27 ( when Obama believed they become ADULTS ), are working and paying taxes, AND can pass a simple government/history test.
That’s about the same age the human brain is fully developed, as well.
Yup. 26. That way they won’t have to interrupt their studies with political concerns.
How ‘bout requiring you to be a net tax payer to vote? Let those who pay have the say.
My answer to that is most housewives are married and file jointly. That means they pay taxes, because the household paid taxes. So, yes, if the household paid taxes, you would get to vote as a housewife. As for the rest, what's wrong with asking people to have some skin in the game before being able to vote themselves more goodies?
SPOT ON...and they better REALLY be proveable citizens!
