In the video linked to in post #8, one can clearly see people moving quickly out of the driver’s way before someone runs out and hits the rear end of the car with what appears to be a baseball bat. The driver instigated the attack on himself by the way he was driving. And I am unaware of any other vehicle being attacked that day.
Just going by this video he could be found innocent of all charges. Maybe even given a key to the city. Okay, maybe not that, but certainly acquitted.
Gotta figure to a 20 yo guy with emotional issues, probably self esteem issues, he views that car as an extension of himself. It’s his pride and joy. So he’s driving down this street with all these people to show it off, at least that’s what might have been going on in his mind, but then all of sudden people start hitting the car with rocks and whatever so he floors it to get away but instead of getting away he runs into more people and hits a car he didn’t see because all the people were illegally in the road trying to hit him.
To him hitting his car is the same thing as hitting his person, his body, he’s that attached to the car.
I can see this as one possible affirmative self defense action by a good attorney. Show all the dings and things the anarchists did to his baby and there it is; innocent.
I just can’t see any 20 yo young man trashing his pride and joy on a bunch of fascist anarchists who the world would be better off without but not by his hand. I’m just not seeing it. I didn’t see it the second I heard and saw the first videos come through. Innocent due to panic and being attacked.
The people to blame for the death of the woman and the injuries are those who were on the street trying to hurt him and his car. Find them and charge them.
I don’t believe in any of that Nazi stuff but I also don’t believe in white shaming or what they call it; white privilege. To me; all of it is equally ridiculous and bad.
The overhead video from the drone shows a red minivan plowing through the crowd. It definitely looks like it's hitting people. The end of that video shows the minivan in the intersection, with the light silver car with the black top behind.
Who were the drivers of those two cars?
If two other cars drove through the mob just before Field's Challenger did, that seems kinda important.
The answer to your second question: The police skedaddled. They felt the situation was too dangerous.

I haven’t followed all the coverage of this, but judging by what I’ve seen from the hate-Trump media it’s more likely than not that this young man was just in the wrong place at the wrong time - and made a bad decision.

What we see here, with people being bussed in, signs being printed, high end cameras appearing, is that this is being orchestrated.

It sure looks to me like people are being attacked in those videos.
If they identify the drivers of the red minivan and the silver/black sedan that drove through the mob first (and the police must have the cars, since they were damaged so needed to be towed) and they say they were frightened by the mob, An Act of Terrorism is going to be very difficult to prove.
True. Unless someone shouts out a Perry Mason-like confession of guilt, it is hard to prove.
In the incidents of muslim terrorism I see, I regard the “Allah Akbar” proclamation as a Perry Mason-like confession of guilt.
But otherwise, I despise hate crime legislation. Not because I support hate crime, but for two reasons: First, there are laws on the books against crimes that should be charged and enforced. Secondly, determining what is going on in someone’s mind at a given time is problematic.

You don’t think the possibility exists that if the car was stopped by the thugs they could break a window and pull him out and beat him or worse? I think it is pretty likely. It has happened, to Reginald Denny- we all saw it on TV. Denny barely survived.
The same groups that were blocking the street have assaulted people that do not agree with them. Assaulted people with deadly weapons like a bicycle lock. They always seem to have weapons of some sort at their riots.
I have been expecting those groups to pull people from cars and beat them. If I encounter a group like that blocking me from getting through I would keep going. I would try my best to not hit anyone but I truly would not stop.
I do not know enough to truly know if the man was trying to run over them, I would never support that. If he was trying to drive out of the area and they blocked him while acting aggressive, he very well may have panicked.

My point is that it looks like he accelerated after his car was hit or at least swung at by someone. Was there other damage done to the other side or from the front (where we can’t see)?
You, like the prosecutor, have decided that this guy is a “bad guy”; therefore, he MUST HAVE done this on purpose. Fact is, he may have done just that very thing. BUT, your longer video does NOT prove that he INTENDED to injure or kill anyone.

There is video on twitter of both the red minivan and the silver sedan immediately after the crash. The minivan shows damage to the driver's side second door absolutely consistent with being bashed in by Antifa.
The video also shows two women exiting the van through the passenger door, and also several Antifa types reaching in the driver's side window of the silver sedan, whose driver appears to be a young African-American woman.
