Federal court strikes down EPA rule key to Obama's climate agenda
Washington Examiner ^ | Aug 8, 2017 | John Siciliano

The D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals' 2-1 decision said EPA does not have the authority to enact a 2015 rule-making ending the use of hydrofluorocarbons commonly found in spray cans, automobile air conditioners and refrigerators. The three-judge panel said that because HFCs are not ozone-depleting substances, the EPA could not use a section of the Clean Air Act targeting those chemicals to ban HFCs.

Yeah........I just had my refrigerant replaced on my A/C and it was about $350 plus labor and that was for the “test” for leakage. If it had been leaking I would have to pony up another $350 in 2 weeks.

This is the first I have heard of that, but it wouldn’t surprise me a bit. Politicians are all greedy crooks.

Pres. Trump. Go with the decision. Let private industries find substitutes for HFC on their own and use them if they are efficient.

That is the beauty of free enterprise - it thinks and looks for solutions on their own. Screw the Kigali agreement.

I know not what path others may take, but as for me, give me FREON or give me death!

I just had to replace 4.5 lb. of Freon in my house air conditioner. Due to the CFC phase-out prices have skyrocketed. My cost, along with a can of sealer to hopefully stop the leak: $985!

A phony regulation for a problem that never existed. That's how junk science hits consumers right in the pocketbook.

I think DAX meant that it cost us billions since it was brought.

At least I hope that is what he meant.

“In this case, with U.S. chemical companies Honeywell International Inc. and The Chemours Co. supporting the rule, Trump’s Justice Department defended the regulation. Arkema SA of France and Mexichem SAB de CV of Mexico brought the lawsuit against EPA.”

CLASSIC CRONY CAPITALISM. Honeywell and Chemours (whoever they are), look at making BIG BUCKS because of this rule. Obama’s bunch look at the look at the chance to further send us into the Stone Age, also via this rule.

EVERYONE WINS - except Americans who have to pay for yet another round of refrigerants and their associated ($100 Billion plus) development costs and impacts.

Perhaps that is what he meant, but it wasn’t written that way at all. *shrugs*

This is a good win. They will no doubt appeal though.

My sympathies. It’s infuriating how many people have to suffer because of junk science. I wish you well.

Meanwhile, asses like Algore use more energy in a month than many people use in a year.

I hope that Trump does not appeal this because I know Obama would. On the other hand businesses are for the rule. I am assuming that they have found a solution. That being said, the rule should be overturned because the EPA had no authority to enact it, and that should be enough to sink it.

I hope that the Trump Administration doesn't appeal this. If it was an overreach by the Obama EPA, then President Trump should let it stand.

Freon is a trade name applied to a whole series of refrigerant compounds, of which R-12 is but one.

R-22 is what used to be in most home A/C units until not that long ago, for instance.

The final ban on importing R22 is in effect. They are linearly reducing he import amount to zero by 2020.

Indeed. When they did the first ban, suddenly asthma rescue inhalers were reformulated, new patents issued, and prices skyrocketed while the effectivity of the product suffered.
