BEAUMONT The recent violence in the Beaumont area has brought to the forefront the need to address gun violence in the community.
Religious leaders are partnering with law enforcement groups for a gun buyback program Friday across the city.
The initiative is expected to last from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
One-hundred dollars will be paid for a rifle; $200 for a handgun and $300 for an assault weapon. Reimbursement for the guns will be made in the form of a gift card and/or cash.
There is no limit on the number of guns an individual can turn in, but reimbursement will only be made for three weapons per person.
Complete anonymity is the basis for the gun submission. No names are written, spoken, or exchanged.
No questions will be asked, and no identification will be required of the individual.
Guns will be collected and destroyed by the Beaumont Police Department.
No police will be onsite with the exception of those providing security.
If a person with an outstanding warrant desires to tender a weapon, they are advised not to do so unless they are planning to turn themselves over to the local authorities.
The purpose of this event is NOT to catch criminals. However, it should be known that local authorities cannot grant immunity to anyone wanted by the law.
When a person enters the designated site, they will proceed to the Weapons Collections Table.
Once the firearm has been received, the person turning in the weapon will proceed to the Gift Card Table.
The individual that turned in the firearm will receive their gift card and exit the facility.

If it’s unrepairable and not collectable this is a good deal, otherwise it’s just for mothers and grandmothers who “find” objectionable items in their home.
The police know what a stupid idea this is, I don’t know why they always seem to go along with it.
As for the objectionable items, if they can find it you deserve to lose it.
Criminals are not welcome. (if you have a warrant you are advised not to attend.)
Beaumont, Texas was the city where a young pregnant wife and mother was murdered during a robbery. She offered no resistance and the perps didn't even bother stealing anything.
It's a cesspool.
Wow what a sad story...Seems it was a racially motivated hate crime, tho the article did not mention it as such. Hope they find the scumbags!!
Beaumont did not seem like a very nice town, but gun buybacks do nothing to reduce crime—they just un-arm ignorant liberals who turn in their firearms thinking they are doing something responsible.
I was just surprised to see this in any TX town—except for Austin which I know is quite liberal.
I have a pistol that’s not worth $10 (.25). I wish they would do that here.
Yep, I might have something like that myself :)
Texas is turning into blue cities surrounded by red rural areas, and not just Austin either. Houston has (or had) a lesbian mayor. San Antonio is Democrat-controlled (the previous mayor was an unapologetic Marxist). Dallas has a Democrat mayor. Houston and Beaumont are home to violent black street gangs, many of whom were Katrina refugees.
Texas is not the conservative paradise it used to be. Not the big cities, anyways.
Giving up a firearm to a buyback program to curb violence is like having yourself castrated to prevent the neighbors from having too many kids.
