I was just surprised to see this in any TX town—except for Austin which I know is quite liberal.

Texas is turning into blue cities surrounded by red rural areas, and not just Austin either. Houston has (or had) a lesbian mayor. San Antonio is Democrat-controlled (the previous mayor was an unapologetic Marxist). Dallas has a Democrat mayor. Houston and Beaumont are home to violent black street gangs, many of whom were Katrina refugees.

Texas is not the conservative paradise it used to be. Not the big cities, anyways.

Not even close. It will flip blue very shortly. Perhaps not in 2020, but not far after. The big cities are VERY blue, as in some, have no conservatives elected to ANY position.
