Report: New White House Chief Of Staff Believes He Has Convinced Trump To Give Up On Border Wall
Daily Caller ^

New White House Chief of Staff John F. Kelly believes he has convinced President Donald Trump to abandon his pledge to construct a large and lengthy wall along the border separating the United States and Mexico, according to The New Yorker.

At a private meeting in tony Aspen, Colorado, two weeks ago, Kelly told a group of high-profile attendees that he had extensively discussed the border wall issue with Trump. Kelly believes he persuaded Trump to abandon his policy goal of erecting a lengthy wall along the 1,954-mile border which the United States shares with Mexico, according to The New Yorker.

Instead of a wall, Kelly said he suggested Trump could utilize a combination of complex monitoring equipment, continuous air surveillance and many miles of fencing can effectively secure the U.S.-Mexico border.

Such a combination of materials and surveillance would be called a “barrier” instead of a “wall,” Kelly told his audience.

Trump couldn’t have been more clear throughout the campaign and since he took office.

He was unequivocal during last week’s Ohio rally.

I think he’s going to West Virgina this week. Expect the same.

Go Trump - MAGA
Go Melania - Lady MAGA

Pepe is pleased

Why?

What matters is not whether or not we have an actually wall but whether or not we can stop illegal immigration.

We all knew the Wall was a metaphor for a multi-pronged solution.

Only those who are unwilling to demand campaign promises be kept refer to the wall as "a metaphor"

While this may be correct, it leaves open the possibility that another idiot like Barack Obama will simply order the system shut down.

The thing about a wall is that it is the embodiment of a policy as being permanent.

The wall is a more then a practical barrier its a symbol of the government returning to its rightful role and protecting its citzens as well as listening to them.

Exactly, and it would not be easily undone by another idiot like Barack Obama who could simply turn off the monitoring on a "virtual fence."

Idiots (MSM), IOW various types of barriers that equal a wall.

this whole thing of a “wall” is just foolish. A wall is probably ineffective.

What is needed is a barrier like the Saudi’s erected on the border with Yemen and Syria and like the Indians have erected on the border with Pakistan. These things are all but impervious.

Old article but this thing is finished by now.

And Trump has never said he wanted a 1900 mile wall. He has said that where the terrain makes it unnecessary, there will not be a wall.

April 25, 2017 tweet

Don't let the fake media tell you that I have changed my position on the WALL. It will get built and help stop drugs, human trafficking etc.

Actually, Trump talked about not needed to cover the whole border with a wall during the campaign.

What has happened since—and, who knows, maybe Kelly deserves credit/blame for it—is that Trump now actually describes a fence on part of the border and calls it a wall.

Obama promised his voters that he would close GITMO. He didn’t his first term and they still reelected.

Trump won’t be so fortunate, if he drops the wall construction, because it was a MAJOR cornerstone of his candidacy.

Of course, this report/rumor/story could likely be made up, since the media has little-to-no credibility anymore.

“We absolutely need the wall. Of course, it won’t stop, but it will significantly reduce the invasion.”

A friend of mine from California recently made the tired, “They’ll just tunnel under the wall...” excuse for why we shouldn’t bother building a wall along the Mexican border. I told her that a couple of years ago in upstate New York, two convicts did dig a tunnel out of a maximum security prison and escape. After a couple of weeks, they were caught; one was gunned down and the other is back in prison. I asked my friend, “Do you think NYS’s politically liberal Governor then announced that all the high, barbed wire fences that surround maximum security prisons should be taken down because a couple of prisoners had managed to dig tunnels out of the prisons?” My friend smiled and responded, “No...” I then asked, “And, had the Governor so ordered, what do you think would have happened?” My friend replied, “Many, many more prisoners would have escaped than when there were high fences around the prisons.” I rested my case.

If we stopped giving them all of the welfare program money and free stuff, we would not need a wall.Medical treatment, sure life saving only, patch them up and send them back home the same way they got here.

True, but “The New Porker” doesn’t make that distinction. They’re intentionally trying to carry on the internal discord and Trump is an idiot mem.

[The old Virtual Fence. Been there, done that. Or rather, didn’t do that, since it was just another excuse for maintaining the status quo.]

That can be turned off. You can’t turn off a wall.

Illegal border crossings are down more than 75% - with no wall.

Put a few snipers on patrol and a wall may not be needed.

(The problem I have with walls is they keep people IN too. Depending on who is in charge, that could be an issue - and we very nearly had that kind of administration.)
