Jail Releases 20-Time Deported Felon Without Telling ICE [tr.]

Sergio Martinez was wanted by federal immigration authorities. But he was released by local authorities in Portland without notifying the feds and he went on to commit two assaults.

Portland, Oregon – The city of Portland released a man that had a federal immigration hold on him and had been deported at least 20 times who then went and allegedly assaulted two women, including a 65-year-old woman.

Portland has declared itself a sanctuary city which means it doesn’t cooperate with the federal government in terms of enforcing the immigration law.

Sergio Martinez attacked a woman in the basement of a parking garage while armed with a knife, according to Fox News. When the woman kicked him in the stomach and hit the button that set off her car alarm, Martinez fled. Detectives also linked Martinez to another assault that happened blocks away, Fox News reported.

In the second assault, Martinez entered through an open window and used scarves and socks to blindfold, tie up and gag the victim. He then sexually assaulted the woman and slammed her head into the wood floor.

Sergio Martinez was caught July 24 when police chased him through a neighborhood.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) had an immigration detainer on Martinez since December, 2016. ICE had asked the local authorities to notify them before letting Martinez go. However, the city of Portland didn’t do that and just released Sergio Martinez.

It’s against the law for cities in Oregon to use their resources to enforce federal immigration law, but there’s no reason that they can’t tell ICE about people already in custody.

Multnomah County Sheriff Mike Reese wrote a letter to the city of Portland that said, “The Sheriff’s Office does not hold people in county jails on ICE detainers or conduct any immigration enforcement actions.”

Martinez’s criminal record included a felony conviction for burglary and three misdemeanor convictions for battery, theft, and obstructing a public officer.

Martinez told police in March that he has a long history of using methamphetamine and was still using the drug, KGW.com reported. He is facing charges that include first-degree kidnapping, two counts of first-degree robbery, second-degree assault, first-degree sex abuse, first-degree sodomy and first-degree burglary, the TV station reported.

Martinez had lived in the area for more than a year and was believed to have been homeless at the time of his arrest.

Sure, sue city hall. That always works out well.

The victim’s should sue the Sheriff’s department first, naming the booking officers at the time of the release in the suit.

I don’t know if they would win or not, but it would scare the shit out of the jail personnel (who are always underpaid, patriotic Americans). Booking would then revolt and absolutely refuse to release any more immigrants with ICE detainers.

I’ve seen this happen with some County jails and sex offenders with Parole holds. Worked pretty well.

Basically, once the jail staff becomes more afraid of lawsuits than the Sheriff, you win.

Portland seems to lose a lot of lawsuits. And they have so many they might forget to show up - then you win by default.

THESE CRIMINALS MUST THINK WE ARE FREAKIN’ IDIOTS!

THEY TELL ALL THEIR FRIENDS “COME ON- YOU CAN DO WHATEVER YOU WANT- YOU MIGHT GO TO JAIL BUT THEN THEY JUST LET YOU GO WHEN THEY FIND OUT YOU’RE ILLEGAL~!!”

These sanctuary city conspirators should have RICO act laws thrown at them. I’ll bet you will even find meetings and conventions where hacks and police chiefs get together to exchange notes on their sanctuary cities. To discuss the mechanics of violating Federal immigration laws. Such as harboring illegal aliens

Make an example of them, vaporize the city. Repeat as necessary.

You should be ashamed that you wish harm on people who think differently than you. No one ever deserves to be assaulted.

Even if he weren’t an illegal alien, what would make a man like that show up for trial? Those are serious charges and he has no ties or assets.

You must be under the misapprehension that I am lucky enough to have my wishes granted. Trust this, nothing I ever contemplate will have any effect on any actual event.

My reply was (obviously) about hoping for just outcomes. It is unreasonable that an innocent should pay a price for the act of another who escapes unharmed. Charlie Gard shouldn't have had to pay with his life to sustain a system he had no hand in creating. It would have been better that a harm befalls the judge who ruled for Charlie's death.

Just the same with these two rape victims. It is patently unfair innocents should have to pay for the stupid votes of others. Too many support ridiculous and harmful government actions. It would serve justice that those who vote for clearly dangerous policies should be the only ones who suffer whenever predictable harms transpire.
