Senate Dem: We’re Trying To Block A Recess Appointment To Replace Sessions

Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) said the Senate Judiciary Committee is "exploring" measures that would block President Trump from appointing an acting attorney general to replace Attorney General Jeff Sessions during the August recess, effectively allowing him to circumvent the need for congressional confirmation.

"We're exploring the ways right now," Durbin said on MSNBC's "The Beat with Ari Melber."

The Illinois senator declined to offer further details when Melber pushed how they plan to prevent any attempt of Trump to replace Attorney General Jeff Sessions, adding that he's told Melber "as much as I can tell you at this moment."

I think the implication is that Trump and Sessions may have planned this all along

Planned WHAT all along? I think it may be as simple as Sessions not draining the swamp and the President being really pissed.

Don't forget, the President can't meet with the AG in private for fear of the appearance of collusion .... so he's forced to "talk" to him publically.

I think Sessions understand the message .. but is counting on the swamp to protect his job.

Just to muddy the waters...I read that Mueller received a pardon from Trump on past activities and that Mueller is going to expand his investigation to include Hillary et al. The “thing” between Sessions and Trump is a ruse so “they” say. Something about July 27th too. Who knows for sure, everybody is just guessing.

But if one member of the Senate remains ... is it really in recess?

“Planned WHAT all along? “

Planned the ‘falling out’, i.e. the public rift might have been staged for the reason described.

The Democrats want to protect the “conservative” Jeff Sessions.....WOW......

They also want Mike Pence, the man who signed Indiana's bathroom bill, to be President. We live in interesting times.

I hate to say it but l think you’re exactly right. Sessions really really screwed Trump with the recusal. There is no scheme between Sessions and Trump here. I wish there was but don’t think so. Trump is in a box and the Rats and GOPe is going to do allow they can to keep him there. Unless he fires Rosenstein first he becomes acting for a few months l think if Sessions goes .

Mike Pence caved to the Corporatists on First Amendment protection for gay marriage dissenters back in 2015. The legislation in Indiana was backed away from in the face of calls for a boycott of the state, threats from business leaders like Tim Cook of Apple.

Pence is a business as usual politician put on the ticket to make the RINO’s happy.

If I’m Durbin, and I’m serious about plotting ways to block a possible Trump recess appointment in August, why would I be talking about it to the press.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You don’t understand it and neither do I because we are not dumb ass democrats and don’t use dumb ass democrat logic.
I read these comments just to laugh. People like you throw out accusations and others are consumed with conspiracy theories. It’s hysterical. Of course, you have no proof. Instead of actually accomplishing something, it is easy for an old coot to sit at a dimly lit keyboard banging out nonsense for which you have no proof. Oh, I know, it is just something you know, but I know you really don’t. Hysterical.
There’s a simpler explanation. Trump needs to build public support for the firing of Sessions before he can pull the trigger.
If Sessions was smart he would resign right now with honor. If he doesn’t resign, he’ll get roasted for a long time and will get fired when he has no support left and people are just begging Trump to let him go.
I see it the way that you do.
I think President Trump really started to lose patience with Sessions when Mueller began to look into his personal business affairs.
He probably thought that Sessions should have had his back and fired Mueller over this and the conflicts of interest.
I believe that there is a real rift between Trump and Sessions and that Trump is feeling out his base to see how it would go over if he fired him.
Donald Trump prizes loyalty highly and I think that he feels that Jeff Sessions wasn’t loyal to him when he needed him to be.
I actually do have evidence, which I think does rise to the level of proof. (Here.)
It is all on public record and boils down to this: the Iran Deal was literal treason and 98% of the senate (to include Sessions) voted for it.
No doubt Trump is not happy with Sessions recusal. But I believe all the recent fire from Trump is about getting him to buck up and be more assertive. I’m sure he’d prefer Sessions stayed and was more aggressive. He doesn’t need another nuclear war just to get another AG through the Senate.
You got it. You really nailed it big time - the only one here that I have read that makes any sense. I wish we had a way to give out awards.
