The Senate is expected to vote Tuesday on whether to take up health care reform, which will require 51 votes to open debate.
It's unclear what any final product will look like if that first procedural vote is successful. The first vote is intended to open debate on the American Health Care Act (AHCA), the GOP-sponsored Obamacare replacement plan that passed the House of Representatives in May.
Republicans need 51 votes to proceed to the legislation, which would then be subjected to what is expected to be a lengthy amendment process. Democrats are united in their opposition to the legislation, and if Sen. John McCain, R-Arizona, is still from brain surgery and likely unable to vote, that means the GOP senators can only lose one vote otherwise the legislation collapses.
Rand Paul says he'll vote in favor of the "motion to proceed" because of assurances from McConnell Paul tweeted that McConnell informed him Tuesday morning that that the plan is to write on a repeal and delay plan that resembles a Senate-passed bill from 2015. He said if that's the plan, he would vote in favor of the motion to proceed to begin debate.

That ruling was made by an Obama administrator.
Could be un-made by Trump’s administration.
There are no democrats who vote like republicans.
But there are some republicans who vote like democrats.
I have no use Murkowski & Collins. I will support their primary opponents.
Republican's are COWARDS. They're going to "fix" Obamacare and then get blamed for everything that goes wrong.
Pence breaks the 50-50 tie.
McCain is speaking now.
Update:
Senate votes to launch debate on revamping Obamacare:
I hope he gets bounced by the folks in West VA.
No profile in courage by him or any Dem.
Oh yes, there will be ONE VERY BIG DIFFERENCE. Whatever the GOP passes, will NOT HAVE MANDATES. My just finished from college kids will be quite thankful for the freedom.
McCain is basically saying Senate is broken right now. Not producing much for American people.
Perhaps that’s true now, but let’s chat again when the Senate is through adding all their amendments.
We’ll see how few government mandates there are then.
McLettuce can kiss my ass
SHUT THE F UP McCain
McCain also took shots, just now, at Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Free Republic, and anyone who thinks conservatism should be VICTORIOUS.
McCain now says he will vote for the DEBATE to PROCEED, but he will vote NO on passage.
McCain, trying to be a hero, is selling out the CONSERVATIVES who voted for him.
Pathetic.
McCain confessing his personal traits have caused problems in the past. Telling other senators that they have to give a little to get a little. Need to trust each other again. Stop listening to bombastic people on internet. To hell with them. We keep trying to find a way to win without reaching across the aisle. We are getting nothing done. Obamacare has to be fixed.
I will not vote for this bill as it is today. It has to be changed. We tried to do this behind closed doors.
We shouldn’t pass bill without Democrats.
Called for hearings.
I agree. Heath insurance is not healthcare. It would be cheaper and easier to help those that truly can’t afford healthcare and let the free market and charity take care of the rest. When I say “truly need” I mean it. If parents can afford to buy new cars, iPhones, etc., but can’t afford to take their kids to the doctor that’s not my problem, and when I say my problem, I’m talking as a taxpayer that funds the government.
Yes, I am not holding my breath, for sure.
How about “save healthcare, not obamacare”.
I think he is trying to get Democrats to participate.
The President called for repeal and replace last night at the Boy Scouts. You have to work to keep up with his changes on health care. Clean repeal one day. Repeal and replace the next. Do nothing and let it die on the third day.
