Scoop: Trump in Talks with Cruz to Replace Sessions and Mueller

President Trump is talking to Senator Ted Cruz and others about what they would do differently as Attorney General, should Jeff Sessions resign, as reports indicate.

White House sources also report President Trump was truthful when he made comments expressing buyer’s remorse over appointing Jeff Sessions to the role. Trump staffers believe Sessions, Donald Trump Jr, and Rohrabacher aide Paul Behrends were unfairly scapegoated due to the left-wing Russia narrative.

In addition, a replacement for special prosecutor Bob Mueller is being acitvely discussed as the President weighs the decision to fire the Rosenstein-appointed prosecutor. Many within the Trump camp see Mueller as acting in bad faith with the investigation due to partisanship, and are urging the appointment of a truly independent alternative.

Facing criticism as a political witch hunt by many, Bob Mueller has hired a who’s who of liberal activists as his team of prosecuting attorneys. Research on Muller’s prosecutors is being conducted for the administration by Chuck Johnson’s team. Finally, top Trump donors are funding their own research operation independent of the White House in order to push back against the media’s fake Russia narrative conspiracy theory.

I am discouraged by several of Sessions ideas, and plans. The Asset Forfeiture increase is one of them. Sessions recusal is another.... that seemed to be an abandonment of the President at a crucial time.

It seems that Ted Cruz is playing an ever increasing role in the Trump administration, although not in an official capacity. I say that is a good thing.

I agree. Unlike the Democrat crybabies and John McCain to this day, Cruz took his loss in stride since his misstep at the RNC convention, and has continued to act forcefully for the conservative mission in the Senate without bashing the guy who beat his arz. Good for him, and I hope his talents will be utilized.

I like a fighter, especially one who is honest, open says it like it is. Trump is that kind of fighter. Nothing sinister or underhanded about him.

I believe Sessions made a mistake in the recusal, but he can play an important role. His basic problem is that DOJ is saturated with career employees who are Democrats and are working against him. That being the case, every appointed employees must be a passionate Trump supporter. If that is not the case, then fire and hire to make it so!!!

Wait, disregard what I wrote - I just saw who the author (Jack Probiotic) was.

Yes, I'd give this one a miss. His track record isn't very good.

Yes. Yes I have. And since the framers had no idea what a Natural Born Citizen was, they later had to amend that vague and unclear idea with even more equally vague ideas. (1784, 1790 and 1796)

Which has lead to hundreds of court decisions over the years all affirming one basic truth:

If you are a US citizen - you meet that eligibility requirement to be the President.

Why doesn’t Trump complain about Ryan and McConnell not defending him instead of saying that about Sessions to the NYT?

Criticize Mitch and Ryan "instead of" Sessions?

Criticism of all three would be valid.

Should have picked a nasty SOB to start

I think he wanted Giuliani or Christie, but they both have too much baggage and would not have been able to be confirmed. It's a shame. Think what Giuliani would have accomplished already. I love Sessions as a person, but it sounds like he was in the Senate too long and was in the habit of getting along instead of "getting over on."

Give up what is almost a lifetime job at this point for something where you can be fired in six months if President Trump doesn’t like your tie.

Cruz is maybe the most ambitious active politician on the scene today.

He ain’t giving up his day job to play Robert Bork for Donald Trump.

Here is the issue to me. Is Trump more concerned about the investigation itself or the fact that Mueller can acquire his tax returns and then publish them in a final report.

Pardons won’t fix that problem.

Trump has been adamant that his tax returns are off limits, and there is now an easy end-around to his refusals.

It’s hard to know what Trump’s concerns are at any given time.

Sessions is probably thinking, “If I resign now then maybe I can still get into the election for my old senate seat.”

I’ve about decided you’re right. At this point, it is impossible for the White House not to have tracked down these constant leakers. Feeding Mika and Joe their daily diet of anti-Trump gossip seems to be an assignment dedicated to someone.

Cruz as Attorneys General would be epic fun. The very idea puts a stupid grin on my face.

Does Trump have the foresight to garner a relationship with the next Senate Majority leader (after 2018 elections)?

I think "yes"!!!

Sure, the article is entitled `Trump in Talks with Cruz to Replace Sessions and Mueller' but then a Cruzer says he wouldn't want to give up his senate seat and risk not running again for president, and we're off to the races. So ... Image and video hosting by TinyPic There's no guarantee he's going to win his senate seat (saying only) after his actions last fall; he has shown he can't win the presidency; and he's not an NBC--and neither are a string of candidates, particularly on the `rat side. Case closed. President Trump is doing his usual "Now you see me, now you don't" and the issue is, how can Cruz help President Trump with his Sessions problem? I don't think any of us anticipated that dynamo Senator Sessions would be such a dud as US Attorney General.

“Cruz is ineligible to be President.
Save it until he runs again. “

IMHO, the issue needs to be discussed and become a written rule of law before anyone who would be questioned runs for President.
While this Presidential eligibility is being discussed another subject needs to be discussed, ‘ should dual citizens hold elective national offices or cabinet positions.
They are so worried about a national from another country talking to the son of a candidate what about someone advising the President on a daily / weekly basis?

Out of all the lawyers and State Justice systems in the US, we can not find someone who can do this job well without taking out a conservative senator who actually fights for us in the Senate????
