Four members of a crew filming a television reality show in downtown Oakland were robbed at gunpoint Monday night of $50,000 worth of equipment and personal items, according to a victim and authorities.
The head of the crew said he was thrown up against a wall and that he and the other victims were forced to lay on the pavement, where the two robbers put guns to their heads and threatened them
Chris Burns, 37, an independent director of photography for the AwesomenessTV production This Is Summer, a reality show that follows eight 17-year-olds growing up in the Bay Area, said Wednesday the robbery was really, really scary. Its the most terrifying robbery Ive ever been a part of.
Burns, who lives in the Bay Area, said the robbery has prompted Awesomeness officials to decide they wont film again in Oakland and that wherever they do film there will be either armed private security or police.
No security was present when the robbery happened about 10:15 p.m. Monday in a parking lot next to Mountain Mikes Pizza, 1830 Webster St., where the crew had just wrapped up filming.

Oakland is a great place to shoot, he said.
Guess they have some local color for their action shots.
Dog Bites Man story.
Insurance covers it.
This happens in Oakland at least three times every year.
You would think the word would have gone out by now.
If you film in Oakland, first inform the police of your plans, then bring your own armed guards.
Bangui by the Bay.
Can’t argue with that.
Bungle in the jungle
Probably ended up with perps, maybe from another incident, on footage. Easiest way for bad guys is to take all the gear and tape or film.
This guy either has not been paying attention to the news or he was playing the odds. If the latter, maybe he wanted to upgrade his gear or is a liberal or both.
lol....If the crew really wants some reality, tell um to head to South Central LA, drive around in some flashy car with Trump flags on it at about midnight.
I promise top rating and the show should will be a sensation.
Can’t argue with that.
They should make a law against doing that sort of stuff (sarcasm). At least they provided a great description of the suspects (again, sarcasm)
There was a Robbery very similar to this in Oakland a few years back and think it was at the same Pizza place, It was also a film crew
Welcome to reality.
It’s all just part of living in cities that we now need to get used to.
Right?
They just got culturally enriched in a vibrant part of town.
Africans being Africans I suppose, but hey, it’s their color that’s the problem not their criminal behavior.
Its the most terrifying robbery Ive ever been a part of.
So he has been a part of others....and was still unarmed?
