There is something more than a little jarring in the ongoing humiliation of Attorney General Jeff Sessions.
In an ill-timed, ill-focused interview with the NYT, President Trump revisited his disdain for Sessions, his first, most-ardent and most-loyal supporter in the Senate.
When supporting Trump was still considered career suicide, Sessions donned the red cap anyway. Maybe it will prove fatal for Sessions’ career, after all.
The president has not made a secret of the fact that he blames Sessions for the scandal that now engulfs the Trump administration, claiming in contravention of all available evidence that somehow if Sessions had not recused himself from the investigation into Trump’s 2016 campaign that his White House will not be under siege.
“How do you take a job and then recuse yourself?” Trump asked reporters rhetorically. “If he would have recused himself before the job, I would have said, ‘Thanks, Jeff, but I’m not going to take you.’ It’s extremely unfair – and that’s a mild word – to the president.”
Sessions seems an odd target for Trump’s blame, given how other members of his inner circle including his son, his son-in-law, his former campaign chairman and his former national security advisor have all laid the president open to the scrutiny of special counsel Robert Mueller.

I hear you, but realistically, the odds of a Clinton fund seizure are still just about zero, while the chances for abuse of small fry have gone way up.
I was a big supporter of Sessions for the job, but he has been a major disappointment. No investigation of the Clinton crime family, or Obama’s criminal activities like Fast and Furious or the IRS. Instead he’s pushing increased asset forfeitures, and let the deep state appoint a special persecutor with a pro-Clinton staff. Time to fire Sessions, Mueller, and Rod Rosenstein. Let the media, Democrats and nevertrumpers howl.

It seems even Trump is losing faith in his AG. What say you?

Sessions needs to wake-up and smell the 21st. Century.

Sessions should resign but not for the reasons you mention. More to the fact that he is one of the most impotent AG’s I’ve ever seen and that’s going back 40 years now.
Sessions is a weak fool to have recused like he did. He also came out praising the prosecutors in that land grab out west which is appalling.
I do think we need a strong ball buster as AG and Sessions isn’t the guy (and I REALLY thought he would be).
Franken asked Sessions a no-win trick question because if he said no he did not speak with the Russian ambassador before the election then the dems would come back with the ah! we have proof that you talked to the Russian ambassador. If he said yes he did speak to the ambassador then the dems would reply aha! you were colluded with the Russians! It was a trap because the dems know that most people did not know that it was legal and common for Senators to speak with ambassadors. The dems would make a big to do about what shady dealings must have been going on.
Is that sarcasm or are you channeling Deep State "regulations", that unConstitutionally unmoor the DOJ from the executive branch?
And when might that be? There is more than enough evidence to indict Hillary for obstruction of justice NOW. He will never go after her or Obama. It makes me wonder what they have on him.

He ceased being loyal or useful as soon as he accepted the appointment. He folded into what he saw as a sinecure in which he would not have to do anything exerting. We did not elect Trump to get anew bunch of time servers, no matter how ardent and loyal they were before they slipped into their slots. He allowed Mueller and Comey to construct this edifice of destruction against the man to whom he was so loyal.
I hope you’re right, because so far, Jeff Sessions can’t seem to even fire an Obama holdover, who is under a cloud of his own questionable activities.

Investigations to be fully complete take time (and covert action)...
The United States is a Union of States. The Senate is supposed to represent the States and their interests. It is embarrassing that a FReeper thinks of the House of Lords at all.

I am willing to give Trump all the time he needs, because he demonstrates on a daily basis, that he’s moving the ball. But Sessions, hasn’t even picked up the ball. Sometimes you make a bad decision. Here both Trump and Sessions collectively made a bad decision. If you put aside the prospect that Sessions has been a mole all the time, you are still left with the fact that he gives the appearance of so much detachment from what he needs to be doing, you are still left with making the change. It will be painful to replace Sessions, but we need to get on with governing.
Sessions needs to do his job instead of shirking his responsibilities and going after unconvicted and even unindicted or unarrested Americans’ assets. Asset forfeiture without trial isn’t even remotely the job we need done, but it’s what Sessions is doing.
