Nearly half of American high school students47%, to be exactare graduating with grades ranging from A+ to A-, according to a study released this week. The report, coauthored by a member of the SAT-administering College Board and a doctoral student of higher education, found that while high-school students average GPAs have soared, SAT scores have slipped noticeably over the past decade.

Because EVERYTHING CAN BE FOUND ON THE INTERNET, there is NO EXCUSE for a student to get anything LESS than straight A's in school these days. NONE.
Kids getting A's nowadays SHOULD BE PRACTICALLY EFFORTLESS AND NO BIG DEAL because of Internet access.
Naaah. I'll bet it's because you are a racist or homophobe or both. Or maybe just a patriarchal misogynist!
(Keep failing them if they don't know the stuff! Passing them does no one any good.)
Agreed with that statement. Theyd think it was an LGBT foursome.

GOD bless and keep you....we need ALL profs and teachers to be just like YOU!
Local schools can’t lose their accreditation or they lose their money, so keep the numbers up and give all those kids who got trophies for simply playing soccer an A.
Now, the real question. Who is behind this social psychology creating young adults who can’t handle reality and, and, ARE COMMITTING SUICIDE? Heroin/Opioid addicts...hmmm.
Those enforcing these policies should be jailed or at the least, lose their licenses.
But they can’t THINK and have no real idea how to do REAL research. They also stupidly believe that everything posted on line if factual/true.
Will do! My favorite back in the day. Digital Controls, too. Took Systems Theory grad class. Sadly I never applied it. Thanks! Son was asking. He is through his core science and math.
Again, THANKS!
Thanks. I am fortunate to teach upper level math courses. My pass/fail rate in the grad courses are often very good. I feel sorry for the lectures and instructors who only teach freshmen because they are under a lot of pressure to pass more students.
Of all the many jobs I’ve had in my life, never once did an employer in a job interview, ask what my grades were.
Employers want experience. They want drive.
True.
That it has now sunk down to the high school level and is so damned pervasive, is very depressing!
I’m old school, my control theory course was analog. With modern controls your son could work on robotics, in the oil patch, HVAC companies, refineries, etc. Tell him to find a company that offers internships to get practical experience.
Can you say, “Students who have no business passing their high school classes are being passed due to teachers being threatened with disciplinary action if they don’t pass nearly every student”? That’s why the GPAs are so seemingly high. And when the “graduates” take the SATs, the rubber really hits the road and their true academic achievement level-—dismal as it is-—is revealed.
Analog. Me too. I designed power supplies out of college. A lot of fun. Unfortunately, demand for power supply designers dropped off and so I changed direction into a different engineering discipline.
You nailed it — he needs practical experience. He has a knack for learning and applying what he has learned but he needs experience with the ins and outs, the tools, the nomenclature, and the devices and processes. I can help here. I have been in the electronics field for a while.
Your post is wrong.
Forgot, we are planning on getting him into an internship next summer.
I have been looking over his shoulder and letting his guidance councilor make recommendations. I’ll recommend Control Theory.
