WASHINGTON President Trump said on Wednesday that he never would have appointed Attorney General Jeff Sessions had he known Mr. Sessions would recuse himself from overseeing the Russia investigation that has dogged his presidency, calling the decision very unfair to the president.
In a remarkable public break with one of his earliest political supporters, Mr. Trump complained that Mr. Sessionss decision ultimately led to the appointment of a special counsel that should not have happened. Sessions should have never recused himself and if he was going to recuse himself he should have told me before he took the job and I would have picked somebody else, Mr. Trump said.
In a wide-ranging interview with The New York Times, the president also accused James B. Comey, the F.B.I. director he fired in May, of trying to leverage a dossier of compromising material to keep his job. Mr. Trump criticized both the acting F.B.I. director who has been filling in since Mr. Comeys dismissal and the deputy attorney general who recommended it. And he took on Robert S. Mueller III, the special counsel now leading the investigation into Russian meddling in last years election.

I would have preferred Rudy Giuliani. Even though Giuliani (age 73) is three years Sessions’ senior, he would have run circles around Sessions. With Giuliani, we would have heard from him with all the energy he has. What he would say would be supporting Trump’s agenda. No way would he be a milk toast in the likeness of Senator Mitch McConnell.
Trump should blame himself for that one. Of course he should nominate a guy from is own gang, to be prosecutor, especially when he knows his gang is going to be under investigation. That's organized crime 101.
But seriously, check the timeline. Sessions was nominated more or less on day one.
Fri November 18, 2016 - Donald Trump picks Jeff Sessions for attorney general
So, Sessions was supposed to tell Trump, before then, that the campaign was going to be under federal investigation, and he (Sessions) would have to recuse from those cases.
I have sympathy with Trump's frustration. And with Sessions too. Sessions doesn't need this aggravation, he should resign. Then Rosenstein, another Trump pick, will have the reins.
Jay Sekulow. Now there’s a guy who doesn’t pull any punches. I’d love to see that. Maybe it’s in the works.
It’s not the AG’s job to protect the president, i.e., to not “screw him over”. It is the job of the AG to faithfully uphold the law and Constitution.
Me too...please ping me if anyone comes up wit it
Yes Sessions is all talk and a weasel just like Comey.
Rudy would not have rolled over and gone fetal for the Dims like Comey did.
Select a new AG and then demote Sessions and put him in charge of immigration and a few other areas.
Trump had every right to expect Session NOT to recuse himself on Russia. Trump now as a democratic hack running a scam investigation on him forever because of Jeff’s choice.
He said it. There is some video here.
Rosenstein is the one who screwed the pooch. Sessions did the ethical thing. Rosenstein appointed Muller.
Sessions has had the insider information to go after Harry Reid. Huge DOJ and FBI coverup. Reid leads to Podesta and the eneregy scams. Also to the senate Majority PAC and other scams.
Sessions is weak.
I thought Trump said he welcomed the investigation because it would clear him when Mueller was appointed
2014?
Don’t think Sessions selected Mueller.
Hey getting trannies free sex change operations is a big deal right?
So, fire all three of them and be done with it. Otherwise Trump is just whining.
This is not a good situation at all
To have to fire the AT this early
Going to be hard to get a replacement through
It has to be a real blow to Sessions after such a career in the Senate
No, but by stepping aside it happened.
