The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has terminated the SMILE Community Action Agency's Head Start grant.

“We’re in the appeal process,” said Chris Williams, director of the agency. “and we’ll inform you more as information becomes available.”

SMILE provides Head Start services, which includes preschool classes for three and four-year-olds, to nearly 1,500 families in Lafayette, St. Martin and Iberia parishes, according to its website.

1. There are reports of injuries to the children.

2. I guess Dimwit Democrats are not used to dealing with an administration that means business.

The Smile Program in these parishes will have to make corrections and appeal the decision by the US Dept of Health and Human Services

Head Start is an ineffective program. It hasn’t changed school behavior or drop-out expectancies. 90 studies and only one had marginal evidence of a difference. Time to zip it.

https://www.usnews.com/news/articles/2015/08/03/report-scant-scientific-evidence-for-head-start-programs-effectiveness

and, from HHS itself, executive summary (pg xvi) dated 2012:

“... results differed by age cohort and by the person describing the child’s behavior. For children in the 4-year-old cohort, there were no observed impacts through the end of kindergarten but favorable impacts reported by parents and unfavorable impacts reported by teachers emerged at the end of 1st and 3rd grades. One unfavorable impact on the children’s self-report emerged at the end of 3rd grade. In contrast to the 4-year-old cohort, for the 3-year-old cohort there were favorable impacts on parent reported social emotional outcomes in the early years of the study that continued into early elementary school. However, there were no impacts on teacher-reported measures of social emotional development for the 3-year-old cohort at any data collection point or on the children’s self-reports in 3rd grade. “

But where are people going to dump their kids for free food while they are using their food stamps on bon bons and crack while watching daytime TV?

I got mixed sentiments about this. Maybe it’s still better for the kids, if the households are so callous and selfish towards them that they get “dumped.” Better this, than dumping them straight on the street.

If it is a bad program, then Trump and Republicans should fix it.

The reason the grant was cancelled was that things were happened that either ABUSED children or ENDRANGERED children (leaving them unattended).

It is a program could be OUTRIGHT cancelled if it is just a waste of taxpayer money...

First they re-design the economy so that economically both parents must work, then demand government daycare and pre-k for all.

Shouldn’t parents be educating and feeding their three and four year olds themselves? What a novel idea!
