Swiss journalist Sacha Batthyany knew he belonged to an aristocratic family, centered around his respected aunt. He didnt know about the murderous ball held in 1945, that led to a personal quest, threats from relatives and a book
One morning in April 2007 journalist Sacha Batthyany was approached by an elderly colleague at the Swiss daily where they both worked at the time. The colleague waved a newspaper clipping in front of him. It was an investigative report entitled, The Hostess from Hell, published by a German daily.
Glancing at the headline, Batthyany didnt understand why he was being shown this article, but then he looked at the picture of the hostess and recognized it immediately. It was Margit, his fathers aunt someone to whom the family demonstrated the utmost respect and also around whom they tended to tread carefully. So he started to read the piece.
In March 1945, it said, just before the end of World War II, Margit held a large party in the town of Rechnitz on the Austrian-Hungarian border to fete her Nazi friends. She, the daughter and heiress of European baron and tycoon Heinrich Thyssen, and her friends drank and danced the night away.
At the height of the evening, just for fun, 12 of the guests boarded trucks or walked to a nearby field, where 180 Jewish slave laborers who had been building fortifications were assembled. They had already been forced to dig a large pit, strip, and get down on their knees. The guests took turns shooting them to death before returning to the party. The organizer of this operation was Margits lover Hans Joachim Oldenberg. Margits husband, Count Ivan Batthyany, Sachas grandfathers brother, was also at the party.
It was the first time that Batthyany, then 34, had heard about this...

What an evil woman. I’m sure she got her laughs in.
For a very short while.....
yep
Possible but then one would wonder about the non Jewish
witnesses to these final mass murders. Pretty weird to
throw a party in order to facilitate such an atrocity,
especially when your side is facing imminent defeat.
Hillary likes to get ‘em in the womb; just like Obama.
Obviously you are treating this problem of authenticity generally as you say nothing about the dinner party. I would also like to speak generally about the bigger problem this authenticity is a part of by citing from Eric Voegelin, Hitler and the Germans:
. . . the problem of Hitler and the Germans" . . . The man got votes.
I do not believe that the German people is made up of millions of imbeciles, blinded and intoxicated by words, behind which fact there was nothing! Then there would today still have to be very man imbeciles going around in Germany, whose intelligence, by the way, is quite willingly made use of when their votes are needed in an election. Whoever voted for Hitler must then have been stupid, fanatical, and possessed of racial delusion . . . Please refute the argument that instead instead of Hitler might something better might have come. So, the conclusion: If Hitler was stupid or a criminal, and the people voted for him in droves, then they too must have been stupid and no criminal. But that is not possible, so Hitler was not stupid and no criminal. The other possibility, the point that is being resisted, is that perhaps a very great number of Germans, perhaps the overwhelming majority, were in fact extraordinarily stupid, that in political matters a very great number still are, and that we see here is a situation of intellectual rottenness, which in fact supported the rise of the phenomenon of Hitler. It is not only a German problem. It is an international problem.
My comment about this JACKASS has been removed to keep JimRob from removing it.
The muslims in Europe should read history. Give it about 10 years and the Europeans will start looking for “strong men” that remind them of their past greatness and point to those that have dragged Europe into the abyss. Then they will start doing what they’ve done for 1000s of years.
Merkel and the EU bureaucrats will have a Mussolini retirement party and then the strong man and his followers will make the grass grow.
LOL! That’s a good one!! (And scarily true!)

I’ve been the book on my list to get. The author should be commended for his tenacity pursing a story that must have been very painful to him at times; painful to uncover how horrible some of your relatives were, and the silence about it that continues in the family still.
“Joining in on a murder spree for the first time when your side is losing badly makes no sense.”
I suggest that it never makes sense. True evil seeks no reason.
Great description; It was oddly fascinating. It’s also comforting to know there are people who still want to remind everyone of the atrocities of WWII. Meanwhile, others are desperately trying to suppress it or just deny it, altogether.
I used to know a man whose aunt was called “The Bitch of Bergenbelsen.” He converted to Judaism, and was, imho, emotionally disturbed by his own neo-Nazi past and his family’s.
I’m sorry. Perhaps my response was a little harsh, especially if you are only talking about lampshades and other specific details. I have met so many “deniers” (who don’t know I am a Jew) I am probably a little over-sensitive. Please accept my apologies.
Golux, thanks for the apology but it was unnecessary. I am not thin-skinned at all. I understand people being over-sensitive. Terrible things were done. Unfortunately, pointing out some of the failings in the Jewish community leads one open to charges of anti-semitism. Most people have no use for the truth and when it is mentioned it is often abused by anti-semites or their opponents.
