They came for John Cunningham on a sunny evening last week, showing up at his house in Brighton like early dinner guests.

They were federal immigration agents, and they were there to throw John Cunningham out of the country he has called home for 18 years.

John Cunningham, 38, has an electrical contracting business. He has paid taxes. He has done much to improve the lives of those around him.

I'm good with this.

Eh, throw it back in their faces. What, we should only arrest and deport illegals unless they're WHITE..........that would be RACIST!

[ If he owned a business he broke laws I am sure. ]

Makes me wonder if he put American citizens and legal immigrants out of work.

There was a guy near here, who hired illegals for home repairs. They busted him. So he set up another operation only this time running the money outside the USA first to launder it. Didn’t quite get clean. They put him in prison.

How many Americans did he harm with illegal labor? Inquiring minds want to know.

“This guy had 18 yrs to fix his status. I give this guy zero cares. Get out. Stay out.”

Exactly. I wonder if he had a fake Social Security Number?

The article says that he had no way to fix his status, because the penalty for overstaying the 90 day visa was 10 years deportation.

It sounds correct. Our immigration system is broken.

It also says that he attempted to find ways to become legal, many times.

Yep, and for him to remain in the country this long with a business he had to have broken laws and lied like 0bama to have still been here.

If John Cunningham is not safe, no one is safe

That’s a really stupid headline. It’s amazing people got paid to create that.

There were a lot of Irish Pubs where you’d be best advised to make that donation for the “orphans in Northern Ireland”, though I doubt much of the money ever found its way clear of the collector’s bar tab, much less to any orphans or terrorists.

He never went back to Ireland, not just because Boston was his new home but because he knew if the immigration authorities realized he had overstayed his 90-day visa, he’d be barred from the United States for at least 10 years.

So while this guy arguably has made positive contributions in America, he is an illegal alien. Do we enforce or laws or do we not enforce our laws? The liberals want us to not enforce laws in this area.

On the other hand, liberals want to be over zealous regarding their pet causes, such as suing bakers who didn’t bake a cake for a homosexual wedding.

Their lamenting, what purpose does it serve to target this guy who has been a good resident all these years, can be asked of liberal pet causes too. What purpose does it serve to target bakers who decline to bake the homosexual wedding cake>???

If the liberals want to have that debate, I would welcome it. Which laws do they want enforced, vs. which laws do they want ignored because it contradicts their liberal theology. Let’s have that debate.

He can’t be all that bright knowing for 18 years he’s here illegally on an expired visa and doing nothing about it.

That strikes me as really ignorant...in the sense of blatantly ignoring obvious things that need to be taken care of.

Ignorant

If the Boston Globe can truthfully say “no one is safe”, meaning no illegal’s crimes are being excused, I’m more than okay with that. Deport every illegal in the country and permanently bar them all from returning . . . except that those who self-deport can apply for legal entry just like people who obey the law would.

How is “our immigration system broken” if in this case, he couldn’t legally stay in America after his 90 day visa was up?

He legally came to America on a 90 day visa. To comply with the law, he needed to leave the country then.

It’s not up to him to decide to stay illegally, then upon being here illegally, to claim that it’s unfair for him not finding a legal way to stay.

His legal way to come to America is through our existing very generous system of legal immigration. He needed to go back to Ireland and then apply to become an immigrant.

I know it’s water under the bridge, but he brought all his troubles on himself, by explicitly choosing to violate our immigration laws in the first place.

Maybe like NY Congressman Peter King, he’s ferrying arms back to the IRA.

How do you make a positive contribution by receiving a salary or making sales from a business that should have gone to an American citizen? Defending illegals is all part of the destructive insanity of the left.

Yes, he broke the law.

But there should be a way for him to leave the country and apply for legal status.

President Trump often talked about that type of reform during the campaign.

The U.S. Government encouraged this type of scofflaw by not prosecuting and by making attempts at becoming legal extremely difficult.

The way our system is set up, it has been much, much easier to come here illegally, and know that chances of deportation are slim, than it is to come here legally.

That sends exactly the wrong signal, and is why I say the system is broken.

Trump is doing the right thing, enforcing the rule of law. It is what should have been done all along.

I was just thinking, for sake of argument, even if we say he’s done positive things, he’s still here illegally, and that should not cancel out the fact that he evaded deportation all these years.

I think he should be deported.

I don’t think it’s positive for illegal aliens to be here even if they try to be responsible residents.

It really means he milked his illegal status for 18 years of American life and wealth, and has nothing to complain about.
