Afghanistan: Just walk away

Our involvement in Afghanistan is untenable because the country is untenable. No matter what is done, Afghanistan will fail because of its galloping population growth.

When the U.S. became involved in 2001, the country had a population of 20.5 million. Now it is 34.4 million, up nearly 70 percent. In the intervening 16 years, the U.S. spent about one trillion dollars and 2,000 lives in stabilizing Afghanistan. All the stability and free food provided just created a perfect breeding environment for the natives.

The population growth rate has settled at 3.0 percent per annum. At that rate, in another 16 years, there will be 55.2 million Afghans, most of whom will need imported grain to keep body and soul together. The Afghani proclivity to breed will only be curbed by starvation. That will happen at some stage because, even if we wanted to underwrite that population expansion, getting the necessary quantity of food into the country will become more and more difficult. Perhaps that situation is beginning now. The U.N.'s Food and Agriculture Organization has reported that 8.4 million Afghans are in an acute food insecurity crisis.

Here’s a thought: pick a country - say Afghanistan. As a test case.

Wipe out Islam.

See what happens.

Just a thought, mind you.

The goal there is eliminating the incubators and safe havens of jihad, not nation building.

If we wanted to really change Afghanistan, we might consider opening internet cafes all over the place and offering free laptops to everyone.

Islam and the remoteness of the population has prevented Afghans from entering the modern world.

BTW, Afghanistan sits on trillions of $ in mineral wealth.

It doesn't have to be poor.

As time passes, I think of Ann Coulter’s “outrageous” statement she made a few years back, something like:

Invade their countries, kill their leaders and convert them to Christianity.

It’s starting to make sense.

Bingo.

I don’t think Israel had any “magic dirt” either.

If you refuse to kill enough people and break enough things and rain down Hell long enough you will get what we’re getting in Afghanistan. It was predictable and predicted. At the very least the population should be down down down and any will to fight cold curdled and DEAD. But no...we put our enemies on welfare...

Stop any aid to them and get the hell out. They will starve within a generation under Islam.

One thing big business CEO’s learn, and Trump is undoubtedly the best, is that there is a time to take your medicine, cut your losses and shut down a loser.

Trump will try and eventually make a decision as to keep on or shut it down. I don't think it will take long.

Just give him the time and a chance to try. He will end up making the right decision.

Bush was never the astute guy he was claimed to be.

And you are right. When we leave, there should be nothing left but blowing sand in the wind and a promise to do worse if we go back.

I don’t understand why free markets and democracy won’t work there. I guess Afghanistan lacks the magic dirt we have here.

It's called Islam. Afghanistan is a prime example of what true Islam looks like.

“Afghanistan belongs to the Taliban, who supported bin Laden who brought down the Towers, the Pentegon and Flight 93. We kept a relatively small foot print in Afghanistan until the Ossoff Obama took over, who increased the foot print and changed the ROE.”

This is the problem with just packing up and leaving. ISIS already has established an outpost in Afghanistan. What happened to Al Queada?

Right, nothing new in repeatedly resisting then folding the remainder of the line into the rear. In the case of the Soviets the strategy was weeks away from failing. Mud & winter halted the advance.

The last 15 years in Afghanistan underscores the fact that there are some uncivilized places you just bomb and leave when they misbehave. When they misbehave again, rinse and repeat.

For every problem that arises from leaving, I can think of 5 that exist by staying. There is no threat that Afghanis pose that cannot be dealt with by much stricter immigration laws. Let Europe accept these people, be blown to bits, and thus rid us of their stupidity.

I think it is English speaking populations that can do it. The language influences the thought processes and the thought processes influence the brain. You have to know English to do have the freedom we have.

We have to do away with post-war building precisely why? It worked great with Germany and Japan. What we did wrong with Afghanistan was to try to do it cheap and with an exit strategy. The idea of an exit strategy is the problem. Don’t enter a war where the desired end is an exit strategy. If you are going to take over, take over. Period.

you can’t poison the well, it is against the Geneva-Hague Conventions and civilized nations follow Geneva-Hague whether or not the enemy does. However, you can blow up all the bridges, dams and power plants.

Land locked. No boat people to deal with. Just destroy the roads leading in and out of the country.

They are goat herder Muslims. I know that that sounds awful but they like the 3rd century conditions... it is all that they have ever known and their leaders and their culture and religion have convinced them that it is just fine.
