The European Union launched legal action Tuesday against Poland, Hungary and the Czech Republic over their refusal to take refugees.
The case stems from a decision to relocate 160,000 migrants proportionally across the EU. Hungary and Poland have refused to take a single refugee under the plan while the Czech Republic let in 12.
EU is now launching infringement procedures, arguing the three countries are violating their obligations as member states.
Regrettably, despite repeated calls, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Poland, in breach of their legal obligations stemming and their commitments to Greece, Italy and other member states, have not yet taken the necessary action, the European Commission said in a statement. Against this background the Commission has decided to launch infringement procedures against these three Member States.
The European Court of Justice will decided whether the countries failed to meet their obligations. A financial penalty may be imposed if the countries continue to refuse the quotas after a ruling in favor of the EU.
Czech Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka said his country has no intention to reverse its immigration policies any time soon.
With regard to the worsened security situation in Europe and dysfunctionality of the quota system, it will not participate in it, Sobotka said after EUs announcement, according to Reuters.
My hubs has a lot of Czech blood and I’ve got some Hungarian. Or at least, that is where one of my g-grandfathers was traced back from. Don’t really know if he was Hungarian though cause his original surname is googling as “Jewish” not pin pointing a place of origin.
Put ‘em on a plane.
Send THEM ALL to Berlin (maybe 1/2 to Paris.)
Agree....the EU are not a friend of eastern Europe...

A V-Exit, the entire Visegrád Group.
Don’t pay anything. Just tell the EU to ESAD.
Merkel et al are pushing this.
They will breed more “Brexits”.
Depending upon where one lived, when sur names were first being handed out, someone living in what was then part of Hungary ( which could be where we now say is Poland, the Czech Republic, Romania, etc.! ) could be a place name ( a la NEW YORKER ), a phsyical characteristic ( small, large, fat, black hair, etc. ), a local landmark, or a profession ( miller, smith, taylor, farmer, etc. ) and could also be in German or Hungarian. Yes, it is a bit confusing, but also very interesting. :-)
And "Jewish" is a silly label for a name! How so? Well, there were once a LOT of Italian Jews and none of them had/have what anyone might care to call a "JEWISH LAST NAME"!
The same is true for Jews who came to America from Spain or Portugal; as well as other nations.
I wish the surname were a little more identifiable. It’s not common here. It was changed upon them coming to US after settling in Western Europe but it’s listed in Jewish records and we can’t trace it back further than a Great-G from Austria/Hungary and others probably related showing hauled off to concentration camps. I do get confused though because most of the time I hear Jewish is only a religion not an ethnic group so I want to know if he was Hungarian, Polish, German, Italian Jew or whatever....I don’t know why it matters but I’m really curious lol.
Contrary to the widespread belief here on FR, the United Kingdom also refused to participate in this quota scheme (a little-acknowledged stand taken by the Cameron government). And because the UK isn’t in the Schengen open borders area, but controls its own borders, there was nothing Merkel et al could do to enforce it. Hence the notorious ‘jungle’ camps at Calais etc, of those who had made it across the Europe to the Channel but were blocked at the UK border.
Good to hear.
