Here in the USA, modern refrigerators use something akin to R-134a or R421, which are not the extremely flammable iso-butane (aka a derivative of lighter fluid!).

Believe it or not you can buy propane based universal refrigerants in the good ole USA. I only heard it was a refrigerator that exploded. Apparently, there are 'green' refrigerators that use a flammable gas under pressure. Those appliances seem to be susceptible to causing fires.
