Trump Attorney: The President Is Not Under Investigation
NBC News ^ | 06/18/2017 | KAILANI KOENIG

Posted on 06/18/2017 7:34:16 AM PDT by MaxistheBest

An attorney for President Trump was adamant on Sunday that the president is not under investigation, despite the president’s tweets this week referring to one as a "witch hunt."

“Let me be clear here,” said Jay Sekulow, a member of the president’s legal team, on NBC's “Meet The Press.” “The president is not and has not been under investigation for obstruction."

On Friday morning, President Trump sent a tweet that seemed to confirm that he was under scrutiny, writing, “I am being investigated for firing the FBI Director by the man who told me to fire the FBI Director! Witch Hunt.”

But Sekulow claimed the president wasn’t referring to an actual investigation in the message, but instead a news report about one.

“The tweet from the president was in response to the five anonymous sources purportedly leaking info to the Washington Post,” he said, referring to the Post’s report this week that Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian interference in the election, now also includes a look at whether President Trump attempted to obstruct justice.

“He's not afraid of the investigation — there is no investigation,” Sekulow said, adding, “there is not an investigation of the President of the United States, period.”

Sekulow on Sunday also acknowledged that the president was “fully aware that if in fact he took this action, he would see a lengthening" of the amount of time it would take to get through the Russia investigation if James Comey was removed as FBI director, but still decided to move forward with firing Comey because he "thought it was in the best interest of the American people."

Also on Sunday's “Meet The Press,” Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla, noted that “one thing we’ve learned from the testimony of multiple people now is the president is pretty fired up about this" and doesn't believe that he did anything wrong. The president “wants people to say that," he said.

Rubio is a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, which is doing its own probe into Russian election interference. He maintained that the president’s actions won’t prevent any of the investigations from proceeding, and that getting to the bottom of what happened would benefit all involved, including President Trump.

“This is is going to move forward,” he said. “We are going to get the full truth out there. I believe this is the thing that could happen for the president.”

Been hearing the naysayers for two years predicting how twitter will be Trump’s undoing. Yet, here we are. And he’s in the Oval. It’s the best way for him to communicate with the people without the filter of a fake press which hates his guts and badly wants to see him fail. I say, tweet away, Mr. President

I know exactly how twitter works, LOL. And I see a lot of people using it more effectively than he is right now, too. Maybe you’re just overcome with anger, and like seeing him vent a lot of anger on twitter. I think some of that is healthy, but he’s overdoing it on there in my opinion. Saying things in anger can cause you to say things you regret. He needs to post more like he speaks, which is always extremely good, but it’s like some alter ego is coming out on twitter usually. At least that’s how I see it.

You're overlooking one very big advantage to a Twitter message from Trump -- even an incoherent one that leads to a cult meme for the ages like his legendary "covfefe" tweet.

If Trump makes constant media appearances and press conferences or public appearances to fight this battle, he's going to give the impression that he's just a crooked politician giving the public a line of bullsh!t to save his skin. Merely going through that exercise gives the subtle message that the allegations against him have credibility.

If he posts a brief Twitter message or a rapid-fire series of them, however (especially if he posts them at 5:00 AM), he gives the impression that the whole thing is nothing more than a nuisance and he has no interest in letting it distract him from the task at hand to "Make America Great Again!"

On twitter he looks a little emotional if not unhinged at times, rather than the deep thinker he appears to be in person, which he should be showing us more.

I've occasionally criticized Trump's Twitter messages, but certainly not for this reason. My only complaint about them is that misspelled words make him look ignorant.

"Emotional if not unhinged at times" is exactly what I want to see from President Trump. That's why a lot of us voted for him. This is the candidate I voted for:

That photo has "unhinged" written all over it. LMAO.

I agree he should be using, a lot. I just don’t think that all of his recent tweets have been helpful, and simply suggested that he might want to bring one of the many lawyers he’s having to surround himself with to take a cursory look before they go out. Apparently many here don’t agree, which is fine. We all have a opinions, and just want Trump and the country to do well.

And all I suggested is he get some quality control to them before they go out. Looks like we may actually agree more than you thought. Later.

Yep, it's just a dog and pony show orchestrated by the deep state-leftists and eGop operatives-promulgated by the deep state shadow government to stall the return to our Constitutional Republic and to demonize patriots and patriotism.

It's also designed to create hate and violence towards Trump and good American citizens.

-- It had to be completely nondescript with regard to its context. --

Heheh. But it wasn't completely nondescript. The June 15 Press Release included this descriptive prose: "... anonymous `officials,' particularly when they do not identify the country - let alone the branch or agency of government".

Check the WaPo "Trump is being investigated for obstruction" article against that description. Check some other articles that cite anonymous sources, and see if the anonymity is narrowed.

Trump tweets like a common person who feels the frustrations we do. That was good when he was running for President. Now has the power to do something about these things instead of just whining via tweets.

He should elevate his tweets to a higher level and use it to tell us something we don’t already know. He could essentially be a one-man news network ... or allow surrogates to do that for him.

To your point — tweets from a President with all that power and special knowledge could be a formidable weapon if used properly.

There’s little to watch on FOX anymore. Chris Wallace is so biased, you may as well be watching CNN.

>>Chris Wallace... I put him in the same category with Whoraldo. I now turn my tv off every time he is on. I can’t stand his obvious bias.

Ditto. Can’t understand why Hannity has his best bud whoraldo on all the time. Waste of showtime.

WaPo is doubling down big league.

Trump lawyer insists there is no obstruction investigation - but then hedges

Sekulow referred to The Post story as "a fake report" during an appearance on CNN's "State of the Union" on Sunday.

"We stand by our story, which President Trump confirmed Friday in a tweet acknowledging he is under investigation for obstruction of justice," Post executive editor Martin Baron said in a statement.

Other news outlets, including the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times and CNN have had similar reports since The Post broke the news Wednesday night about Trump being under investigation.

Now the press is going to have to take a stand on one side or the other. WaPo swears that Trump is under investigation for obstruction of justice. Their contention, up to them to prove it. In other words, Trump has no obligation to confirm, deny, or remark on the subject at all; although his lawyer has directly denied it.

>>Add Eboni Williams to the Fox no-watch list. She never shuts up and her thoughts are worthless. Bye, bye The Specialists!

Agree. She and the show are a total waste of time. Boring, liberal drivel. I stopped watching after the first few shows.

It’s a shame though because Eric Bolling himself would be great in a Tucker Carlson-type of show, just without his sidekicks. Their shallowness is highlighted by his excellence.

They are more than hypocrites. They are professionally-trained sharpshooters who take aim at us, our leader, and our liberty. They are domestic terrorists, sanctioned by our Gov’t to attack 24/7.

I don’t think they will willingly go quietly into the night.

OK, now that the attorney has leaked this vital piece of classified information, we need to open an investigation on the attorney!

That is one reason me and Hannidity parted company. I do not watch him on television, and I do not listen to him on the radio any longer.

I think we are waking up to the fact we are in a war, and we must decide we are in this war to win it. Let us be assured the Left and their satanic spirit of antichrist are in it to win it.

May we stand fast in faith and wisdom of Christ and APPREHEND OUR VICTORY IN THIS BATTLE.
