NASA: Key Antarctic Glacier Not Melting As Rapidly
Townhall.com ^ | June 11, 2017 | Matt Vespa

Posted on 06/11/2017 7:47:54 AM PDT by Kaslin

Al Gore thinks the weather has been out of the Book of Revelation, while Time and ABC News have reported that Antarctica is melting very quickly. Now, it’s not (via NASA):

The melt rate of West Antarctica's Thwaites Glacier is an important concern, because this glacier alone is currently responsible for about 1 percent of global sea level rise. A new NASA study finds that Thwaites' ice loss will continue, but not quite as rapidly as previous studies have estimated.
The new study, published in the journal Geophysical Research Letters, finds that numerical models used in previous studies have overestimated how rapidly ocean water is able to melt the glacier from below, leading them to overestimate the glacier's total ice loss over the next 50 years by about 7 percent.

Despite what liberals may say about global warming, science is never a settled issue. That’s what you should glean from this. The studies can be wrong. The models can be wrong. And the question nations face concerning so-called global warming is whether they wan to invest hundreds of billion, if not trillions, of dollars on a group of people who have been wrong before. How much economic growth, decreased standard of living, less prosperity, and the accompanying misery will you artificially inflict among those in your society on predictions that have been grossly inaccurate? In the 1970s, global cooling was the threat that could spell mankind’s doom. Nothing ever happened.

Peter Gwynne has gone back and updated his 1975 Newsweek piece to deny climate change skeptics of using is as ammunition. Still, he had to change it because the science was wrong—and Gwynne admits that. He said that this field of study is always advancing. Yet, if you speak to these green warriors, the issue is settled. There is no more debate.

I beg to differ.

I thought I just read last week that NASA not only said it ice “was not melting”, but that the ice field was actually expanding.

Who got to them?

But....but...an earlier article claimed the “thin shelf” was set for epic melting.....

Elizabeth Warren makes a bunch for 1 class
The returns did not provide many details on the source of the income. But some insight can be gleaned from a 2011 financial disclosure form, which shows Warren earned a salary of $430,000 from Harvard. ht CNN

“Warren earned a salary of $430,000 from Harvard. ht CNN”

The way “the academic system” is set up, it’s simply another Liberal/Marxist scheme to take tax dollars, give them to would be students, who, in turn, give them to universities and colleges run by Liberal/Marxists, who “reward themselves” ( a la Warren) with said money. There is absolutely no reason to continue with our government “financing higher education.” It’s one of the biggest scams in it’s own right apart from the money movement mechanism I just described. The plethora of “degrees” that offer absolutely no potential for earning a living need to be abandoned now, because these a$$hole liberals are fleecing everyone involved and using the money against those who unwillingly provide it.

The whole global warming thing has me baffled. We are overdue for an ice age. If we are in fact affecting the climate in a meaningful way, pray that it offsets global cooling (caused by sun activity.) Ice ages are much much worse...

It wasn’t science in the first place...numerical models...meh.

Science is based on observation and experiments. Numerical models...GIGO.

Political “science” at your service. Constituents that can’t add nor subtract taking as fact what shill scientists on the government dole say concerning the most complex feedback looped system in the known universe.

What a put-down to bho! Less than a couple of weeks after President Trump ditches Paris the glaciers stop melting. Bho couldn’t get that done with eight years of throwing our taxpayers; $$$ at the ‘problem’.

If it's being melted from BELOW, that means it's floating! Glass of water/ice cubes. The water level doesn't rise when the ice melts. Sheesh, these guys fail 2nd grade science!

It’s probably not melting at all. Liberal elites make BIG GRANT MONEY off global warming lies... might influence how they see things.

I suspect this glacier is called "key" because it can be used by the fake climate people as "proof" of AGW.

Once it's been shown to not be doing what they claim it is, they will move on and we will never hear of this "key" glacier ever again...

‘Anyone who spends any time near the ocean will tell you that there has been no observable change relative to the land during their lifetime’

to the land, probably, not, but to those beach strands not propped up by restoration efforts, yes...

‘The water level doesn’t rise when the ice melts’

good point...I wonder if anyone questioned NASA about that seeming conundrum...

Not sure what you mean, partly because of all the commas.

I don't think it makes any difference land or beach. For land I would judge by the Intracoastal Waterway level near Palm Beach, FL, which I've seen pretty regularly for more than 40 years now. (Next inspection on Thursday!)

For beaches I would judge by the beaches of Nantucket Island which I used to visit regularly up until the year 2000.

No observable change in either, except for the tides.
