The situation in the Middle East may be heating up rapidly. Not long after several countries cut ties with Qatar and enacted a blockade against its shipments, one of the most powerful Arab nations has just issued a serious ultimatum.
Saudi Arabia gives Qatar 24 hr ultimatum to fulfill 10 conditions that have been sent, stated Reza H. Akbari from the Institute for Peace and War Reporting.
The indications are that if Qatar ignores those conditions, Saudi Arabia is prepared to take military action.
Sky News Arabia confirmed Akbaris report. Our sources: Saudi Arabia has informed Kuwait of 10 conditions that [Qatars capitol] Doha should apply within 24 hours starting tonight, the news station posted in Arabic. Kuwait is acting as a mediator between Qatar and other Arab countries.
Al Jazeera journalist Faisal Edroos shared the ten demands with the public. According to IFP News, they are:
1. Immediate severance of diplomatic relations with Iran, 2. Expulsion of all members of the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas from Qatar, 3. Freezing all bank accounts of Hamas members and refraining from any deal with them, 4. Expulsion of all Muslim Brotherhood members from Qatar, 5. Expulsion of anti-[P]GCC elements, 6. Ending support for terrorist organisations, 7. Stopping interference in Egyptian affairs, 8. Ceasing the broadcast of the Al Jazeera news channel, 9. Apologizing to all [Persian] Gulf governments for abuses by Al Jazeera, 10. Pledging that it (Qatar) will not carry out any actions that contradict the policies of the [P]GCC and adhering to its charter.
Those ten conditions center on Qatars alleged connections to Iran and groups such as Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood. At the heart of the conflict is also a scandal regarding Qatars state news agency.
Last month, the government-owned news station published remarks which were attributed to the Emir of Qatar. The alleged statements expressed support Iran, Hezbollah, the Muslim Brotherhood and Hamas.
The Arab news station denied responsibility for the quotes, and maintains that its website was hacked. While it insists that the Emir did not actually make the remarks, many Middle Eastern countries did not accept this explanation and quickly distanced themselves from Qatar.
It goes without saying that Middle Eastern conflicts are complicated and can have serious future effects. One of the Americas largest Middle Eastern military bases is located in Qatar, and turmoil in the area might jeopardize that agreement.
Popcorn time.
I think this GRAND.... of Biblical porportions. ALWAYS when the enemies of Israel threated the people of the Covenant, the enemies turned against each other. I say let Muslim slay Muslim, until they are all gone.
Will Qatar’s guest workers fight to defent the country?
Qatar would be little more than a speed bump...
My thought would be that Qatar can have some small, crippling attacks on the SA infrastructure or pipeline. no?
Wow, a war in the middle east that doesn’t involve the US or Israel. Refreshing, it’s been a while since we’ve seen that. I think we should just step back and let them destroy each other.
The President’s meeting in SA apparently went very well.
5.56mm
Sure they will. Just like our guest workers will defend the USA.
This is sounding like the run-up to WW1.
My concern is for the large number of American forces and our bases in Qatar....this could very easily spin WAY out of control!
What the hell was in that briefing package that Trump gave the King, and WHYis no one at CNN,ABC,CBS,etc. the least bit interested in it?
Go buy oil !
Except for that huge air base with the forward headquarters of United States Central Command, headquarters of United States Air Forces Central Command, No. 83 Expeditionary Air Group RAF, and the 379th Air Expeditionary Wing of the USAF.
Even if we get all our people out, we are still "involved". But otherwise I'm with you, get our assets out and let the Muzzies duke it out to their black heart's content.
I’m skeptical.
The price of oil (WTI - $45.60) is almost at a 10 month low, and it dropped slightly today.
It’s all fun and games until someone shoots the archduke, right?
I am with you. Brought up our air base in Qatar on Google earth. Lots of military there. A lot of hardware, long range bombers etc. Do you happen to know how many American personnel are there? I have yet to find the number.
Just like Yemen? The Saudies are inept and incompetent. Having said that where’s the popcorn...
Their normal defense budget is $1.2 Billion, now all of a sudden I read where they want to buy $25 Billion worth of U.S. fighters. A bribe perhaps?
This is the Trump doctrine in action. He wants regional leaders to risk their money and lives instead of the US.
