Major U.S. corporations and leading business figures are raising an eleventh-hour appeal to President Donald Trump, urging him to not pull the country out of the landmark 2015 Paris Agreement on climate change.
Following Tesla (TSLA, -0.44%) CEO Elon Musk's suggestion that he would quit his positions on several White House advisory councils if Trump's decision is to exit the deal, as has been widely reported, other firms and business leaders have also come out in favor of the pact. Oil giants ExxonMobil (XOM, +0.30%) and ConocoPhillips (COP, +0.92%) were among companies that reiterated their support for the accord ahead of Trump's announcement, reports Bloomberg.
"Energy needs are a function of population and living standards," Exxon CEO Darren Woods said at the company's annual investor meeting in Dallas Wednesday, according to Bloomberg. Woods' position in favor of staying in the deal is the same as his predecessor, current Secretary of State Rex Tillerson. "When it comes to policy, the goal should be to reduce emissions at the lowest cost to society," Woods said, adding that demand for oil will keep growing even with the climate deal in place. ConocoPhillips thinks that being part of the Paris Agreement allows the U.S. to continue having a role in shaping efforts to reduce carbon emissions. "It gives the U.S. the ability to participate in future climate discussions to safeguard its economic and environmental best interests," company spokesman Daren Beaudo told Bloomberg in an email.

Elon Musk is the CEO of several companies whose primary product is government subsidy.
I am sure Exxon and ConocoPhillips have plans to profit greatly from the mandates they see coming out of the Paris Accords.
Not one of these guys gives a damn about the environment.
It is all about the money. They are worried that the Gravy Train is reaching the end of the line.
What's not to like?
They want oil over 100 bucks a barrel again through artificial government interference.
Trump is closing the American checkbook and taking the knife out of the backs of the American people .....while saying to the rest of the world "No more blank checks from America. Pay for your own bills."
I believe they are all globalists. Remember, that at the heart of the Paris Accord is that the USA is at fault and is responsible for making things right IN THEIR EYES! Everyone else is a victim.

As a private citizen, DJT did sign a letter supporting the deal but now that he is CIC the best interest of the country should be front and center. And this “deal” ain’t.
I'll bet his carbon footprint is ten times the size of mine.
The Paris Climate Accord has nothing to do with the climate. It is a massive transfer of wealth from rich countries to poor countries, with the United States on the hook for most of it.
Big corporations are all for it because poor countries can buy lots of cool stuff with all the money we give them.
Trump needs to pull us out of the boondoggle...
The CORE ISSUE is MONEY.
It's the MASS distribution, worldwide, of BILIIONS and BILLIONS of U.S. TAX DOLLARS to those already lined up at the financial feeding trough constantly refurbished by our Federal Government.
The U.S. foots the bill.. everyone else simply PARTICIPATES.

Exxon has been running those biofuel commercials. Wonder what sort of government subsidies are involved.
They may be CEO’s but they are not ‘top’. They are the bottom and if this is climate deal is not destroyed then we can kiss America goodbye.
Trump also said he would “lock her up”, “repeal & replace obunghole care” and “drain the swamp”. So far, we, the people are not faring so well...Will be interesting to see what happens this afternoon.

Well, for one thing, this accord would single-handedly wipe out a major energy competitor. The oil companies do have a lot to gain financially by eliminating the coal industry.
