My Dad passed away today after his six-week battle with lung cancer. I hope to see him again in Heaven. His last words to me, sent in a text yesterday, were “still fighting.”
He was to be admitted to the hospital yesterday afternoon, due to extreme weakness and dehydration. However, he collapsed at the Anne Arundel medical center. He briefly lost his pulse, but was resuscitated and immediately rushed to the hospital. He never regained consciousness, but before he collapsed, he kept repeating that he did not want extreme measures to keep him alive, so we respected his wishes. He passed away today, about 24 hours after he collapsed.
We pray to God for the outcomes that we want, but sometimes, sadly, the answer is no. He does things in His own way. Now Dad is with Him.

When my Dad passed I believed he was in a better place due to his decreased quality of living.

Awww. So sorry. You have my deepest sympathy. I also lost my dad to lung cancer, almost 22 years ago. Now your dad is past earthly suffering and with his Creator. You have your wonderful memories of your time with him, to cherish forever.
