Death spiral for cars. By 2030, you probably won’t own one

By 2030, you probably won’t own a car, but you may get a free trip with your morning coffee. Transport-As-A-Service will use only electric vehicles and will upend two trillion-dollar industries. It’s the death spiral for cars.

A major new report predicts that by 2030, the overwhelming majority of consumers will no longer own a car – instead they will use on-demand electric autonomous vehicles.

By 2030, within 10 years of regulatory approval of autonomous electric vehicles (A-EVs), the report says, 95 per cent of all US passenger miles traveled will be served by on-demand, autonomous, electric vehicles that will be owned by fleets rather than individuals.

Well, I'm just sayin' that if you've got some 60's muscle cars that you need to dispose of, just ship them to me and I'll "take care of them" for you. Just tryin' to do my part. :-)

There’s probably a market for maybe five computers.

Who would have ever thought that when I got old, I’d be happy about it? I don’t want to live long enough to see what becomes of this world.

I’ll still need something to pull the boat.

You can have my truck when you pry it from my cold, dead fingers.

The only way this will be possible is if FedGov outlaws cars. Which will probably happen. It is too hard to control a populace if you don’t limit their travel.

Sounding like Rush's Red Barchetta...

"I strip away the old debris, that hides a shining car
A brilliant red Barchetta, from a better, vanished time
Fire up the willing engine, responding with a roar!
Tires spitting gravel, I commit my weekly crime…"

How about a “death spiral” for enviro-whackos?

My 98 GMC will still be running fine in 2030.

The government is still looking for ways to herd the sheep and keep control of them. There’s too much freedom and independence going on out there.

I’m suspicious of any prediction that uses nice round numbers as this one does.

Self driving cars will be a tremendous benefit to some people, but not others.

I say the autonomous cars will dominate taxis, UBER, etc. All of which cost or charge me far more than driving my own vehicle would cost. INMO there may come a day they rule, but not likely in 2030.

There will be cold dead fingers, but they'll be getting driven over.

“...outlaws cars...” If and when the dementocrats regain control, they could banish private autos to help save the “erf”. You know, for the common good.

Well, I'm just sayin' that if you've got some 60's muscle cars that you need to dispose of...

That won't be necessary. Eventually the government will solve the problem by confiscating all those planet-killing vehicles.

Comrade, you boat has been deemed harmful to Gaia, and shall be confiscated for your own good as well as that of the Erf.

Why else do the prefer that “everybody” live in population centers instead of anyone living out in the boonies and off off the grid. Can’t have that. Someone might have a free and individual thought. NOT allowed.
