Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) said Tuesday he is disappointed with President Trump's decision to fire FBI Directory James Comey, arguing such a move reinforces his calls for a special congressional panel to investigate Russias interference in the 2016 presidential election.
While the President has the legal authority to remove the Director of the FBI, I am disappointed in the President's decision to remove James Comey from office, McCain said in a statement.
Comeys firing comes in the midst of an ongoing FBI investigation into whether Moscow interfered in the 2016 election, including whether Trump transition officials worked with Russian officials. The issue is also being probed by the House and Senate Intelligences committees.
McCain said Comeys firing amid the FBI's Russia probe is all the more reason to form a special congressional committee that will independently investigate the matter. I have long called for a special congressional committee to investigate Russia's interference in the 2016 election. The president's decision to remove the FBI Director only confirms the need and the urgency of such a committee, he continued.
While a number of GOP senators voiced support for Trump's decision to fire the FBI chief, McCain praised Comey as "man of honor and integrity" who "has led the FBI well in extraordinary circumstances."
Critics have questioned whether Trumps decision was an attempt to sway the FBI's Russia investigation, with many questioning the timing of Comeys dismissal.

I’m disappointed that McCain is too narcissistic to realize that he’s past his prime and should retire.
We need TERM LIMITS now!
“Hes a maverick. McCain thinks for himself. I dont agree with him on his statement, but he speaks his mind. He doesnt toe the party line.”
No $hit! Problem is, he’s a maverick Democrat! He wouldn’t “toe the party line” even if it was described by a line of cocaine.
With that statement he should be able to make the rounds on the news shows this Sunday
I’m disappointed that McCain is still breathing. You’d think with his having to drag the Linda Graham cancer mass attached to his a$$ all these years, he’d have kicked the bucket by now.
DeplorableAmerican: I’m disappointed McCain is alive, and in the Senate as a Republican.
With McCains disappointment and the other statists going crazy, this has to be the best move ever. History has shown that the more outrage, the better it is for the citizen.
The statists should be celebrating since Comey “cost” HRC the election.
Trump needs to ruin McCain. Show his involvement and support for Isis.
I hope we pick up more seats in the senate in 2018 and Trump won’t need his vote anymore. Destroy him!
McWeasel and Nancy Graham should slink off to some fetid version of Shady Pines, and STSU!
I’m “disappointed” that mclame isn’t institutionalized .
Two reasons I know that Trump did the right thing in telling Comey “You’re fired!”.
1) McLame is “disappointed”
2) Every snowflake in Northern California is running for their “safe spot”.
There is one question I wish McCain would answer for everyone, why did you make it out of the rat hole Hanoi Hilton, while other good, decent men didn’t!
That requires a majority of Arizona in 2022.
Or two thirds of the Senate whenever (Article I, Section 5).
Good ol’ McLame; just can’t keep himself from knifing Trump in the back. What a spiteful old man he is. Probably should work on getting rid of that vengeful spirit before judgment day; not getting any younger. But who am I to judge?
Nothing personal but I really hope McCain passes away soon. But then, can Arizona be trusted not to give us another flaming RINO?
