U.S. Senator John McCain is criticizing the foreign policy of the Trump administration, saying it is not focused enough on human rights abuses around the world.
In an op-ed article for the New York Times Friday, the Republican senator said the United States has an obligation to speak out for human rights as a country that was created from an ideal that liberty is the inalienable right of mankind.
He criticized recent comments made by Secretary of State Rex Tillerson who said conditioning U.S. foreign policy too heavily on values creates obstacles to advance U.S. national interests.
With those words, Secretary Tillerson sent a message to oppressed people everywhere: Dont look to the United States for hope We make policy to serve our interests, which are not related to our values, McCain wrote.
McCain said some will credit Tillersons point of view with realism, but he said if by realism they mean policy that is rooted in the world as it is, not as we wish it to be, they couldnt be more wrong. He said it is foolish to view realism and idealism as incompatible. McCain said the demand by people for human rights is reality, and said that by denying them these rights, we invite their enduring resentment.
To view foreign policy as simply transactional is more dangerous than its proponents realize, he wrote. Our values are our greatest strength and treasure.
McCain, a Republican senator from Arizona, has criticized the Trump administration on a range of issues, including the presidents immigration orders and wish to have better relations with Russia. McCain has also sparred with the president about comments he made on the possible legality of torture and gave only a lukewarm endorsement of Tillerson during his confirmation process.
In a weird way, we actually dodged a bullet in 2008.
This freak-show would have destroyed the world if he had been elected.
Where was mccain when genocide was happening to Christians and other groups in the middle east under obama?
Isn’t that the truth! A McLame Presidency would have been like boiling a frog. Someone needs to “get the hook” and drag this useless peckerwood off the stage.
Dear Lord, call your servant John to his reward. In Jesus Name. Amen.
“McCain blasts Trump”. Every story with McCain starts out with the same thing. Does this dirt bag ever do anything else?
The kids have a name for people like McLame; frenemies. They pretend to be your friend to your face but as soon as your back is turned he is your enemy.
This brain demented old coot needs to park his butt on a fishing boat or something; anything but politics.
Now that I think about it; every pol over 75 is like a lead weight on our system of government. None of them are adding anything of any value but they are sure tearing it down. Think Maxi-Stupid Waters, Nasty Pelousi, Mclame, graham, schumer, etc. etc.
Sure, there’s probably an exception or two, but these people are past the time when they are any good. There’s a reason people normally retire in their 60’s or early 70’s. Their mind’s aren’t even capable of seeing just how much damage they are causing by staying in congress...
stfu McCain
What, with the Dems in the majority? He mellows around them; not as much of a rhetorical hawk.
Probably would have been the same as Obama but just with different rhetoric. Can’t call it dodging a bullet after the damage that Obama managed to inflict.
When will this traitorous coward just shut up?
If Wrmongering Insane McCain had his way, we would be in continuous global war. Only one ‘Human Right’ would exist under Insane McCain:
“You have the right to be bombed” : for the enrichment of his Military - Industrial Complex Masters.
McCain does know he’s a Republican and that Trump is a Republican?
It’s really a rhetorical question designed to put McCain’s treachery in perspective.
This idiot would have gone to war with Russia
Why did Jared Loughner target Gabby Giffords? Why couldn’t he have targeted John McCain?
Ed
McCain would have had us in WW3.
This guy was palling around with the leader of ISIS in Syria.
Traitor. Coward. Limp wrist. Globalist. Communist. Liar. Murderer. Thief. Honor thief. Fake war hero.
Best thing this moron ever did in his life was choose Sarah Palin as his running mate.
Nope. He’s too weak for that, and there’s the matter of prophecy anyhow. He would have been as much of a friend to the Muslim terrorists as Obama has been, especially with the Dems’ help.
His left-wing domestic outlook would be a reworded version of Obama’s too.
McVain always cares too much about sucking up to his masters in the MSM.
