Twitter users concerned about the bill passed the House to repeal and replace Obamacare are sharing their personal health stories on Twitter under the hashtag #IamaPreexistingCondition.

The hashtag started to trend hours after Republicans in the House narrowly pushed through the American Health Care Act, which would drastically remake health care in the U.S.

By midday Friday ET, it had trended worldwide with about 146,000 tweets so far.

Some celebrities joined in.

I’d rather not say the company or the price, I have this weird fear of being too easily identifiable, and knowing my town, probably figuring out my surgeon, and with the company and range, I’d be fearful of being identifiable, and with all the crazy radicals in Oregon, i want to remain as anonymous as possible!

Sorry!

The supposed non-payment of expenses for preexisting conditions is a straw man being used to attack the Republican plan before it can even be finalized, and before people understand what’s in it - the bill includes 180 billion in government funding to supplement what insurance companies will pay toward pre-x bills - it’s not clear yet how this will be done, and apparently different states may handle it different ways - maybe regular insurance will pay up to a certain amount with the government picking up the rest, or pre-x patients will be in a separate pool, or perhaps the government will supplement altogether what the companies pay - a panel on C-Span yesterday covering insurance issues mentioned that the most expensive bill in one year for a patient with a pre-existing condition was $18 million - in Iowa I think - maybe that’s why three-quarters of the counties in that state will have no company to provide them insurance beginning next year......

My daughters are in the same situation. One has a brain injury and has had seizures. She’s in college working on a statistics degree. I’m hoping she’ll be able to work at home some and have flexible hours.

Her twin sister has a movement disorder. She’s studying to be a speech therapist.

Their disorders are pretty static. They know they are going to have to purchase insurance or get it through work.

This is now getting away from actual pre-existing conditions to another argument for government overreach on one side and having the government decide to just stop everything it has made people dependent on all at once and let them rot in the streets. There have been avenues for such folks for a long time - mainly through charities and other benevolent orgs/churches, etc. The problem is that we have allowed our Government to take over far more than what is legal and basically set these people up by offering to take care of them and making it so they didn't have to do anything to plan for their care.

For the same reason there are restrictions on salt licks during hunting season, it would be immoral to just yank the rug all at once. It has to be phased and would never get enough votes to even start in the right direction if that isn't in the wording - reality bites but for most of us it's an inconvenient pest - for some it would be like getting thrown back into the ocean after being rescued.

Think you belong over at DU wanting the death panels. You are one heartless bastard! I’ll pray that you never lose your healthcare and then get sick or have to choose between an insurance premium and feeding your child.

Excellent comment. I think people have been suckered into dependency, and virtually all of the previously available alternatives have been removed — getting back to a better social contract is going to be difficult and take quite a bit of time.

“The hashtag started to trend hours after Republicans in the House narrowly pushed through the American Health Care Act, which would drastically remake health care in the U.S.”

ROFWL

As if Obamacare had not tried to “drastically remake health care in the U.S.”, and totally botched it.

I have preexisting conditions that were always covered by the group health plan at WORK!

A lot of companies, especially smaller ones, don't offer health plans.

In every state I have lived in, Oregon not being one of them, that is not the case.

Even people with chronic conditions can get insurance that covers other illnesses.

This is one reason why the rule that you can buy across state lines is a good one. And probably not included in the latest insurance coverage bill.

I don’t remember when I joined.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
July 11, 2016.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I despise Obama care. I want it gone!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Really? Why? What is it doing for your child that you don’t want done, or what is it not doing for your child that you want done?
If you don’t answer anything else I’ve asked here, you can just answer this question, because it will tell me all I really need to know about you and your position here.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I just have real life experience with a pre-existing condition and I want people to realize some truths about them before they spout off with opinions.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Pre-existing conditions: So do lots of other people here and everywhere, me included.
I’ve never asked the taxpayer to finance care for any of my problems.
The one thing I saw a lot of before health INSURANCE became a HUMAN RIGHT (and thus a Constitutional right) was fund-raising. This option is now so easy with online options it’s unreal. Back when I saw it, people would hold events and even put jars on local store counters to collect money.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I think it’s the least you can do when your solution is to tell people to just go ahead and die!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Unless you’re talking about specific posters here (who may or may not have been sarcastic), this is the brainwashing line that is being fed to the LIVs by the leftist press.
“THE REPUBLICANS JUST WANT YOU TO DIIIIEEEEE!!”
The people pushing this propaganda are the same ones showing Republican politicians pushing Grandma off a cliff.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OGnE83A1Z4U
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hrdeyMNZW88
(Hint: In this ad they talk about Medicare. Medicare does NOT pay for medical INSURANCE. It pays medical BILLS. Conflation and confusion, as I hinted above, are the hallmarks of leftist brainwashing.)
Now, as far as your FreeRepublic bona fides go, let’s take a look at one of your previous posts in this thread:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
To me, it’s morally wrong to say abortion is wrong, but if you are born with a medical condition, once you age off your parents insurance, you are condemned to die. At that point, abortion looks like the more compassionate choice! Is that who we really are as conservatives?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Abortion is wrong, full stop.
You have a problem saying that?
And that last sentence of yours, “Is that who we really are as X”, that’s straight from Obama’s mouth.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gouAcayDwLM
No conservative I know of would try to convince anybody with an unironically delivered Obama line. That’s more along the line of the “concern” troll, like the REGULAR ORDINARY CITIZENS who only show up at town hall meetings of Republican politicians to browbeat them about healthcare and other things that are not illegal immigration, funding of Planned Parenthood, or more jobs.
Hopefully, private organizations can find a way to take care of such things, with state and local governments as a backup. The federal government typically cannot find it’s own bee-hind with both hands and a flashlight.
Federal debt is $20 trillion and climbing. See if your state or local legislators can help with some legislation of their own.
