Great the people in the "free" public housing can use the "free" cars to go get their "free" EBT purchased groceries and go to their "free" Obamacare doctor while talking on their "free" Obamaphone.

...packing and moving to Sacramento... :)

Been off SSDI due to brain injury for over 2 years, but this work thing gets old fast :) JK

Fortunately, my job pays a heck of a lot more than SSDI max.

"On Friday, Sacramento launched a pilot program that put eight shared electric Kia Souls at public housing sites. Up to 300 residents can apply for on-demand access to the vehicles, with no charge for maintenance, insurance or juicing up the battery.

What could possibly go wrong? Reminds me of this:

"Even more important than being drunk, however, is having the right car. You have to get a car that handles really well. This is extremely important, and there’s a lot of debate on this subject – about what kind of car handles best. Some say a front-engined car; some say a rear-engined car. I say a rented car. Nothing handles better than a rented car. You can go faster, turn corners sharper, and put the transmission into reverse while going forward at a higher rate of speed in a rented car than in any other kind. You can also park without looking, and can use the trunk as an ice chest. Another thing about a rented car is that it’s an all-terrain vehicle. Mud, snow, water, woods – you can take a rented car anywhere. True, you can’t always get it back – but that’s not your problem, is it?"-PJ O'Rourke (How to Drive Fast on Drugs While Getting Your Wing-Wang Squeezed and Not Spill Your Drink, 1978)

I just went outside and took a photo of my 97 Lumina with a flashlight. It still has 50 miles to go before it hits 200,000.

Those cars are going to be trashed in no time. And stolen.

Imagine trying to insure such a car with multiple drivers of unknown driving records. And if the state self-insures, imagine getting into a collision with one and trying to sue the state.

The mayor of Sacramento is Darrell Steinberg. I still can’t believe this gigantic cockroach prick is mayor of Sacramento. 7 more months and I’m done with California.

Residents can use the cars on a first come, first served basis. They will be limited to three-hour windows three times per week.

Sacramento Mayor Darrell Steinberg said the cars will help people get to doctors appointments, job interviews and school.

“It’s providing accessible transportation to low-income people using the newest, cleanest technology,” said Steinberg. “This is the definition of environmental justice.”

Sacramento County Supervisor Phil Serna said he hoped the project would introduce more consumers to electric vehicles, giving them a chance to “warm up” to the technology.

I can see the 3 hour time window being abused almost immediately. How will Sacremento punish the violators for this?

The Mayor of SACREMENTO thinks these grifters are going to use the car to go to job interviews and school? Is he that deluded to think these people are actually interested in school or job interviews????

The Sacremento County supervisor thinks this program will introduce more "consumers" to electric vehicles to make them warm up to the idea????? First off these grifters are NOT consumers in that they never will pay for anything! I guess you can consider them consumers in the idea they take and "consume" things, but at other taxpayers expense! Second, why would Sacremento County give 2 sh*ts whether or not these grifters are warming up to the idea of electric vehicles? Is there some sort of lobby in California for "Grifters for greener cars" or some such BS?
