If Marine Le Pen wins, it’s almost certainly the end of the EU, experts say — and that could bring economic and political turmoil unlike anything the West has seen in decades.
Forget Britain’s vote for Brexit. Forget U.S. President Donald Trump’s November win. If Marine Le Pen somehow defeats Emmanuel Macron in France’s presidential runoff vote on Sunday, it may be the biggest electoral shock in the West so far this century.
A win by the leader of the French far right would see a leading European nation select a president emphatically opposed to globalization and integration, friendly to authoritarian Russia and tethered to a party, the National Front, that is steeped in a history of neo-fascism, extremism and bigotry. It could prefigure the dissolution of the European Union, trigger new economic chaos and hammer home the last nail in the coffin of an already ailing liberal order.
A Le Pen victory “means the collapse of the EU, because the EU without France doesn’t make any sense,” Gerard Araud, France’s ambassador in Washington, said in a conversation with The Washington Post earlier this year. “And it means the collapse of the euro and a financial crisis, which will have consequences throughout the world.”
It’s still an unlikely outcome.....

Le Pen is secular. She openly admits her disdain for religreligion and LGBT values.
Marine or Brigette? I wonder about the cop vote. Cops have to fake allegiance to the machine, but if most LEOs convince 25 of their friends and family to vote LePen... if you weren’t particularly political but a LEO cousin or aunt or neighbor begged you to vote LePen with warnings about jihadis, that’s a demo that might not be polled or analyzed much.

If she upsets the Snail Crunchers and libs up in Canada so much,, she MUST be good.
IMO electing Trump was the only thing that made La Pen even thinkable.
If Hillary Clinton had made it, La Pen would have been throttled months ago.
Hillary’s people may have done the throttling. Past history makes that fairly clear.
Le Pen doesn’t want France taking orders from the leader of Germany.
I have walked through a few American military cemeteries in France and it’s quite sobering. This was when I was stationed in Germany. From this perspective, I find it galling that Europe did not learn anything from its history and is looking at a new Dark Ages as its future. To see France go this way is disheartening and those who remember those men who liberated them are rapidly shrinking in numbers. Socialism and Islam are rotting Europe and this in turn makes every soldier who is buried the various military cemeteries to have died in vain.
Few thought Trump would win. Ain’t over till it’s over.

So true. Never been there but have seen many photos of the cemeteries. . row after row almost as far as the eye can see.
We gave them their freedom and liberty back and they took it for granted. It seems they didn't learn the lessons of history. If they elect Macron, they deserve what they get.
My grandfather from the Alsace-Lorraine area, so I feel like I have a stake in this in a roundabout way. I hope the French put their thinking caps on Sunday.
